Walter C. Schumann Jr., of New Britain, PA died on Monday, October 26, 2015, at Buckingham Valley Nursing Home, Buckingham.  He was 88.

He was the beloved husband of 56 years to the late Betty Hargan Schumann.

Born in Philadelphia he was the son of the late Walter C. Sr. and Hilda Miller Schumann.

Walter grew up in Philadelphia, however, spent his summers in Asbury Park with his cousins.  After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and since he was musically talented was assigned to play in the Eisenhower’s Band.  He was a gifted tenor sax and clarinet player and therefore performed with the marching band in various parades, for the Armed Forces Radio and at the many USO events throughout Europe.

Upon returning home he continued his education and received a degree in mechanical engineering.  He married his beloved Betty in 1953 and began his career as a quality control engineer and manager for several companies including; Johnsville Naval Base in Warminster, Honeywell in Philadelphia, Unisom in Trevose and US Gauge in Sellersville.  He had a steady job following post war government contracts.  Unfortunately he had to transfer almost every three years because the contract would expire.  After many years of that he decided to control his situation and began driving a truck for Indian Valley Enterprises of Harleysville which allowed him to see the entire country.  After retiring he continued to work as a driver, this time with Fred Beans shuffling new cars to various dealers and owners throughout the area.

It was apparent that Walter enjoyed being in a car and on the road for the vacations always included a long road trip.  However, if he was not behind the wheel driving you would find him under the hood or console restoring one, bringing it back to life.

He is survived by his children, Glenn D. Schumann and his wife Patricia of Warrington and Linda B. Bigay of Las Vegas NV.  He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren; Dan Largent, Julie Largent, Christopher Largent and Timothy Schumann.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Friday, October 30, 2015 from 10:00AM until his Funeral Service at 11:00AM from the New Britain Baptist Church, 22 East Butler Avenue, New Britain, PA 18901.  His interment will follow in Beulah Cemetery, New Britain.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to New Britain Baptist Church Memorial Fund P.O. Box 5147 New Britain PA 18901.
