Elfriede Zimmermann of Southampton passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Wednesday September 16, 2015 at Southampton Estates. She was 93.

She was the beloved wife of 56 years to the late Egon Zimmermann.

Born in Hohndorf, Germany she was a daughter of the late Otto and Minna Fiedler Schuffenhauer.

Elfriede possessed an enourmous amount of fortitude and strength, so much that along with her husband they relocated from Germany to America in 1955. She took on a whole new life in a place she had never been and with a language she didn’t speak, simply because if was the best opportunity for the ones she loved.

Elfriede was a long time member of Tabor Lutheran Church and later Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Philadelphia. She was a very active member of the Vereinigung Erzgebirge Club and was employed by Penn Fishing Reels, retiring after 25 years. She was an avid gardener and also enjoyed spending her free time sewing and doing puzzles and had treasured her last ten years spent in her new home at Southampton Estates.

Above all else, Elfriede will be remembered by her family for her selflessness, caring and loving nature and for her hilarious sense of humor. She will be dearly missed.

Elfriede is survived by her children, Rita Puls and her husband, Wolfgang, of Huntingdon Valley and Angelika Koontz and her husband Donald of Mercer, PA. She was also an adoring “Oma” to her six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband her parents; she was preceded in death by five siblings.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday September 22, 2015 from 9:30 AM until her Funeral Service 11:00 AM at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 14100 Worthington Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19116. Her interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Vereinigung Erzgebirge Club of Philadelphia, 130 Davisville Rd., Warminster, PA 18974.
