Dr. David A. Bevan, of Gladwyne, died late Saturday afternoon June 6, in St. Michaels, Maryland of an apparent cardiac event after an afternoon of sailing. He was 71. He was just a week away from celebrating his 46th wedding anniversary.
Born in Philadelphia, Dr. Bevan was the beloved husband of Maryanne Morrissey Bevan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward C. & Altine L. Blake Bevan and his brother Stephen A. Bevan. He was a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1969. He served his residency in Internal Medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center and also a Fellowship in Rheumatology. He had an illustrious career in Medicine; he was Board Certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. A Fellow, College of Physicians of Philadelphia, Fellow, American College of Physicians, Past President and member of Philadelphia Rheumatism Society, Member of Academy of Applied Osteopathy, Pennsylvania Osteopathic Association.
He was presently a Volunteer Professor, Internal Medicine, Division of Rheumatology PCOM. He was former Chairman of Division of Rheumatology at PCOM, and former Associate Medical Director, Independence Blue Cross.
Even though Medicine was truly his vocation, Dr. Bevan, thoroughly enjoyed his free time; he was a member and Past President of the Welsh Society, a member of the Union League of Philadelphia, Corinthian Yacht Club, Philadelphia Country Club, a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla # 4-11. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ardmore, the University Lodge # 51 F&AM and the Shriners, Valley of Bloomsburg chapter.
As he thought about retirement, he found out that his grandchildren could keep him busy; he supported all their sports and musical endeavors. He even learned to play the guitar. David looked forward to sailing and spending time on the water and gazing at the constellations. He was a man with a generous smile and a of heart gold who will be truly missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 3 daughters and their spouses, Laura Conroy (Patrick), Deborah Glantz (Matthew), Rebecca Dewey (Sean), 7 devoted grandchildren; Hannah, Quinn and Thomas Conroy, Harrison C. and Avery Jane Glantz, Katherine and Shannon Dewey and his sister-in-law Tanya Bevan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro and on Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 415 E. Athens Ave. Ardmore from 9:30am until his Funeral Service 10:30am . Interment will follow in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville, PA.
