Janet E. Connolly, long-time resident of Churchville and New Hope, died peacefully on April 23, 2015 at the age of 85.
Janet was the beloved wife of the late Edward C. Connolly. She is survived by her loving children; Michael J. (Paula) Connolly, Christopher J. (Sheryl) Connolly, Benedict J. (Cynthia) Connolly and Andrew J. (Donna) Connolly and by 12 grandchildren. Janet was preceded in death by son Matthew J. Connolly, sister Carol Condon and grandson Ryan Connolly.
An accomplished educator and author, Janet’s lifelong passion was education. She began her professional career as an elementary school teacher. Then, while raising five sons and being active in local politics, she continued her education, receiving her doctorate in sociology in 1975.
Janet was a beloved adjunct faculty member at Temple University teaching Sociology and Criminal Justice. Her love for her students and passion for learning, earned her invitations to teach at numerous universities, both in the states and internationally.
In the early 90’s Janet began a new adventure, helping to establish a new campus of American University in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, and teaching classes to eager students there. Janet and husband Ed served the university long enough to see the first class graduate.
Janet’s passion for travel overcame her fear of flying. In spite of being a white knuckle flyer and a non-swimmer terrified of water, Janet visited Europe, the Soviet Union, the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe. Her legacy to her students and grandchildren was that with courage and determination, you can do anything.
Janet’s life was a rich tapestry of loves: family, education, and travel. In addition she managed to contribute time and energy to the political process, community service, and governance. She served on the Board of Directors for the Red Cross, Planned Parenthood, and Bucks County Association of Corrections and Rehabilitations. She also worked inside a number of successful election campaigns, including former Congressman James Greenwood.
