William P. O'Connell, of Holland, PA died on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at home surrounded by his children. He was 79.
He was the beloved husband of 42 years to the late Rosemary O'Connor O'Connell.
Born in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late William P. and Mary Hampston O'Connell.
Known as Bill to friends and family, he was born and raised in Chicago, IL and attended De La Salle High School. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN. Bill worked for 41 years for the Hyster-Yale Material Handling Group, beginning as a draftsman and retiring as Vice President. With a promotion, he moved to Philadelphia, PA in 1968 and later settled in Holland, PA with his wife, Rosemary, to raise his family. He was an active parishioner of St. Bede the Venerable Church for 44 years. After retiring, Bill volunteered with SCORE, Bucks County, providing mentoring to small business owners. He was a dedicated season ticket holder of the Philadelphia Phillies for 35 years and was the loving Papa to his 9 grandchildren.
He is survived by his children: Michael F. O'Connell of Nazareth, PA; Molly O'Connell Rhodes and Christian of Holland, PA; Julia O'Connell Lyons and Craig of Haddon Twp., NJ; and Christina E. O'Connell of Doylestown, PA. His sister, Margaret Bourke, lives in Chicago, IL. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Collin, Mei Li, Julia, Will, Abby, Taisen, Megan, Emily and Fiona.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday, April 15, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown Richboro Rd. (at Holland Road) Richboro, PA 18954 and on Thursday, April 16, from 10 am until his funeral mass at 12 Noon at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Rd. Holland, PA 18966. His interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Bede the Venerable Church at the above address.
