Henry J. Sterthous died peacefully on Jan. 1, 2015 with family by his side. Originally from the Feltonville and Mayfair sections of Philadelphia, he resided for the past four years at Ann’s Choice in Warminster. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Florence Sterthous (nee Cymbor). He is lovingly remembered by his five daughters Barbara O’Donnell, Linda Sterthous (Anna Kruschwitz), Denise Milde, Diane Sterthous, and Sandra Sterthous (Brian Powell). He was grandfather of Ryan (Julie), Sean, Kevin (Casey), Kyle, Douglas, Nicholas, Jennifer, Alec and Georgia and great-grandfather of Kaleigh, Aidan, Kira, Liam, and Audrey. Also survived by his brother George Sterthous.
Henry began his career as a machinist at the Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia. When World War II broke out, he joined the US Navy and served until the war’s end. He then returned to the Arsenal where he worked for many years, ending his government career as a Procurement Specialist. He continued working in the private sector for a number of years until retiring.
In his younger years, he was an avid soccer player. He later took up golf, becoming a “scratch” golfer and captain of his golf team at the Frankford Arsenal. In his retirement years, he and Florence traveled extensively across the US and Europe, rode bikes, and took daily long walks through Pennypack Park. He loved cheering for his two favorite home-teams, the Phillies and the Eagles. Above all, he valued time spent with his family and enjoyed any opportunity to attend family parties, holiday celebrations, and special events.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday from 9:00am until his Funeral Mass 10:30AM at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 605 West Street Rd. Warminster, PA 18974. Int. Resurrection Cem. Bensalem.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Ann’s Choice Staff Appreciation Fund, 20000 Ann’s Choice Way Warminster, PA 18974.
