Kermit Richard Weitzel passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Doylestown, PA. He was 87.
Kermit was the beloved husband of Helen E. Stauffer Weitzel for over 66 years.
Born in Quakertown, PA he was the son of the late Kermit J. and Anna Hillegass Weitzel, and father of the late Kenneth Weitzel.
Kermit was a proud veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Navy, enlisting at the age of 17 to ensure he was able to help during the war effort. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Kermit went back to school and earned his high school diploma. Kermit then began to work with the FMC Corporation and remained employed there until their closing. He then worked as a school bus driver in the Central Bucks School District for 20 years. Kermit was a member of the New Britain Borough Council for nearly 25 years, and also spent much of his time on the football field where he was a coach for the Lenape Valley Pop Warner team. Although Kermit had many hobbies and interests, his one true passion in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Helen, Kermit will be deeply missed by his children; Lori Barrett and her husband William, and Richard Weitzel and his wife, the late Tami. He is the beloved grandfather of 6 and great grandfather of 5.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 11:00 AM until his funeral service at 12:00 PM in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901. His interment will follow in Beulah Cemetery, New Britain, PA.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Kermit’s memory may be made to the Bucks County SPCA, P.O. Box 277, Lahaska, PA 18931.
