John J. “Jack” Hartnett, Jr., of Harleysville, formerly of Willow Grove, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014, at Abington Hospice, Warminster. He was 72.
He was the beloved husband of 48 years to the late Gertrude E. (Gonzales) Hartnett.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Catherine M. Stewart, stepson of the late Jackson Stewart and brother of the late Betty Springer.
Jack grew up in Philadelphia and moved to Willow Grove in 1965, only recently moving to Harleysville.
When he was first married he worked at several places including Colony Garage in Philadelphia and Upper Moreland Township Public Works before he began his career with Miller and Son Paving in 1969. For over 38 years Jack was fortunate to work with them spending most of his time running a lowboy flatbed trailer transporting various types of heavy equipment.
Jack was an active member of the Willow Grove Volunteer Fire Company for many years and enjoyed the friendships he made there. Some of his favorite things were spending time at his cabin in the Poconos and watching NASCAR. However, more than anything, Jack was a loving husband who dedicated himself to taking care of his wife and family. For this he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his son John J. Hartnett III (Hope) of Hatfield, his daughter Donna M. Rosenbaum (Bill) of Telford, and his sister Dolores Joyce of Philadelphia. He is also survived by his 3 wonderful grandchildren Andrew, Mary, and Jessica Rosenbaum and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewings, Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from 7:00 – 9:00pm and Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 9:00am until his Funeral Service 10:30 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901. His interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Charity of the donor's choice.
