James Andrew Mann passed away November 16, 2014 at his home in Newtown. He was 88.

He was born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved husband of 66 years to Doris C. Holdsworth Mann and son of the late Jane (Robertson) Mann and Edmund Mann, and was a life-long resident of Philadelphia and Bucks counties.

Jim faithfully served is country during World War II. In the Pacific Ocean Theater he served aboard cargo and troop transport ships before being transferred to the USS Alaska (CB-1). After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Jim finished earning his high school diploma at Northeast High School and subsequently did coursework at Temple University.

Jim spent his career in Philadelphia as a commercial construction contractor. Jim and Doris started their own commercial construction company—James A. Mann Inc. Their business was successful and Jim and Doris were in business together for several decades.

Jim had several interests outside of work. He was a member of the Carpenters’ Company of Carpenters’ Hall in Philadelphia and the Masonic Philadelphia-Potter Lodge, Number 72. Jim also served on the Boards of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Ivyland, PA, and The Ocean City Tabernacle in Ocean City, NJ. He loved puttering around his home fixing things, helping and advising his family, eating at Shafto’s and walking down the Ocean City boardwalk with his family, and swooping up a child as he danced around the kitchen singing songs and laughing. He was a Christian who loved God and always had the courage to change the things he could for the better.
