Edward “Ed” W. Pettit of Feasterville and formerly of Philadelphia passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10th at Holy Redeemer Hospice in Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania. He was 87 years old.
He was the beloved husband of Ella L. Pettit for 36 years.
He was born in Philadelphia; he was the son of the late Edward and Irma Pettit and brother of the late Ronald Pettit.
After serving his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Ed worked for Leeds & Northrup in Philadelphia and then for SEPTA Southeastern Transportation Authority in electrical overhead for the Philadelphia Trolley Lines while working part time at night at Strawbridge & Clothier/Clover department store. Ed retired from Septa on February 1, 1993 after 23 years of dedicated service. Ed enjoyed being busy so after retiring he began working at Estee Lauder in their cosmetics packaging plant.
Ed was a member of many bowling teams including the “Hasbeens” with the Leeds & Northrup Men’s League. In addition to bowling, Ed’s hobbies included listening to music (especially Frank Sinatra), refinishing furniture (many pieces that others were discarding and he transformed into treasures), cutting the grass, and shoveling snow. He was a master model maker with hand painting excellence (everything from Roman Gladiators to Japanese Geisha Figurines; his capturing of skin tones and flowery ornate coloring designs could have equaled that of Michelangelo in form & texture). Ed enjoyed visiting with people and was often out and about visiting with the neighbors and helping them with whatever projects they were working on at the time. Ed also enjoyed joining his SEPTA friends at their monthly breakfasts.
In addition to his beloved wife Ella, Ed is survived by three devoted children, Edward Pettit, Theresa Bergerhuff & his youngest, Wayne Pettit; two devoted step children, Linda Esposito (and her husband Albert) and Donna Morges; twelve dear grandchildren, Nick, Tammy, Jackie, Natalie, Theresa, Angela, Lauren (and husband Derek), Daniel, Meghann, Jacqueline, Paul and Dominic and two beloved four-legged children (Chanel, a miniature poodle and Latte, a whippet). He will be sadly missed as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Relatives and friends are invited to share their condolences on Thursday November 20, 2014 from 11:30am until his Funeral Service 12:00pm in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Rd.) Richboro, PA 18954. Interment will follow with military honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Disabled Veterans National Foundation (https://donate.dvnf.org) or Bucks County SPCA, P.O. Box 277, Lahaska, PA 18931.
