David A. Schlichting Ph.D., of Holland, PA died Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Twining Village Health Care, Holland, PA.  He was 90.

He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Dolan Schlichting.

Born in Ann Arbor Michigan, Dr. Schlichting was the son of the late Arthur F. and Annabell McFawn Schlichting.

Dr. Schlichting has been a resident of Twining Village for over 6 years.  He was a proud Veteran of the Army and served his country bravely during World War II as a battlefield medic.  Dave earned his Ph.D in Pharmacology from Purdue University in 1950.  For over 40 years, Dave was a Research Pharmacologist, who was instrumental in saving lives by  developing and enhancing medicines and drug therapy treatments.  In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf, singing, and participating in various church choirs.  With his deep spiritual convictions and his eagerness  to help his fellow man, Dave became an ordained Deacon of Oreland Presbyterian Church in 1960.  He also served as an EMT in Southbury Connecticut at 80 years of age.

Dave will be sorely missed for his overflowing kindness, his cheerful, caring nature and his deep spirit by everyone who has come to know and love him.

Dave was a loving, actively involved family man. He is survived by his two daughters, Lynda K. Murty and her husband, William, of Highland Falls, NY, Barbara Schlichting and her husband, Phillip Lubitz, of Stockton, NJ, his two sons, David J. Schlichting and his wife, Patti, of Newton, MA, Scott A. Schlichting and his wife, Lisa, of Broomfield, CO and also his 8 loving grandchildren, Jennifer, Zachary, Keith, Lizzy, Derek, Dylan, Su Fen, and Michael.

Services will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hunterdon County on October 22 at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Pennsylvania.

God “Showed him the Way to go Home”.
