William J. Glatz, Jr. of Holland died tragically on Thursday October 21, 2010, while protecting his employees during an attempted robbery of his jewelry business on Rising Sun Ave. in Northeast Philadelphia. He was 67 years of age.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved husband of 48 years to Donna M. McGee Glatz and son of the late William J. Sr. and Anne Rosskothen Glatz.

Bill was a graduate of Frankford High School, class of 1961. He has been a 45 year resident of Holland. Bill enjoyed traveling, fishing and working in his shop either at his home or work. He will be deeply missed not only by family and friends but his community.

Bill followed in his late father’s footsteps and continued operating the William Glatz Jewelers on Rising Sun Ave for the past 35 years. Bill kept the store open to remain as fixture on the Avenue, where his father started. He gave his heart and soul to keep “the Avenue” thriving. He was a pillar of the community who was good and generous and loved by all and admired by colleagues. Bill loved his work and had recently opened a second store in Jamison, operated by his wife Donna.

In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his son and daughter, Robert W. Glatz and his wife Cathie of Telford and Cheryl A. Garr and her husband Thomas J. of Chalfont. Also surviving are 1 sister Joanne Proschinger and two loving grandchildren, Collin and Jessica Garr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Tuesday October 26, 2010 from 9:30am until his Funeral Service 12 Noon at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5455 N. High St. Columbus OH 43214 www.americanheart.org
