Walter B. Gilmour Sr.
Walter B. Gilmour Sr. of Ivyland, died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, November 1, 2010 at his residence.
He was the beloved husband of the late Suzanne Goodall Gilmour.
Born in Philadelphia PA, he was the son of the late Alan W. and Edna Blood Gilmour.
Mr. Gilmour was a graduate of Penn Charter High School, and Lafayette College with a Bachelors degree in engineering. During World War II, Walter helped with the war effort by using his talents to help construct Submarines at the Naval Yard in Philadelphia. After the war he went to work for U.S. Steel until his retirement in 1972. In his leisure time he enjoyed everything and anything pertaining to fishing. He enjoyed saltwater fishing, Trout fishing, and most especially fly fishing which he continued to do up until 3 years ago. Walter will be sorely missed by everyone who has come to know, love him and had the pleasure to fish with him.
Walter is survived by his loving and devoted children and their spouses; Gail Vreeland and Walt of Egg Harbor, NJ, Walter B. “Skip” Gilmour Jr., and Mary Lou of Ivyland, and Suzanne G. Hayburn. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Services and interment will be conducted at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Trout Unlimited Memorial Gifts 1300 N. 17th St., Suite 500, Arlington, VA 22209.
