Joseph J. Bergan, Jr. of Langhorne died Sunday, December 5, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 82.
He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Marie E. Sullick Bergan.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph J,, Sr. and Marie C. Dorney Bergan, brother of the late John M. Bergan and father-in-law of the late Scott Weber.
Joseph was a former resident of Philadelphia before moving to Langhorne in 1990 and was a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia. He was truly a man devoted to his Catholic faith. He was a former communicant of St. Bartholomew Church in Philadelphia and a present communicant and very active parishioner with Our Lady of Grace Church in Penndel. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holmesburg Council #1284. For many years, Joseph was a Project Manager with various firms which included Lupton Olin, Ocean City Reel and United Engineers and eventually was an Insurance Agent for the Knights of Columbus.
Joseph will be remembered as a dedicated family man. He was truly a positive role model for his cherished grandchildren and was often present at many of their functions.
In addition to his wife Marie, Joseph is survived by his dearest children, Marie C. Weber of Harrisburg, Ellen M. Harney and her husband Michael of Ester, Alaska, Kathleen M. Pfender and her husband James, Joseph J. Bergan, III and Lorraine A. Balara, all of Langhorne. Also survived by his 5 grandchildren, Christine, Nicholas, Timothy, Brittany and Andrew.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thursday, December 9, 2010 from 9:00am until his Funeral Mass 11:00am at Our Lady of Grace Church, 225 Bellevue Avenue, Langhorne, PA 19047. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Langhorne.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, C/O St. Katharine Drexel Shrine, 1663 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, PA 19020.
