Harry Lester Darling Jr, 86, passed away December 31, 2010 at Twining Village in Holland, PA where he was a long-time resident.
Born in Centerburg, Ohio, he was the son of the late Harry Lester and Charlotte Elsie Darling.
Harry attended Purdue University and was a veteran of WWII serving as a naval officer in the Pacific theater. After serving his country, he returned to complete his Masters Degree at the University of Michigan. He married Evelyn Doreen Lyons who pre-deceased him in 1983.
He enjoyed a long career in the New York Advertising Industry and taught at NYU. In early retirement, Harry taught at Syracuse University. He was an avid sports fan who particularly enjoyed college basketball and Philadelphia Phillies Baseball. He loved music and his piano playing and singing brought joy to many. Favorite pastimes included poker and bridge with friends and traveling with his companion, Dorothy. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren including Adirondacks and Jersey Shore vacations.
Harry is survived by his companion, Dorothy S. Fiedler, his children Harry “Chip” L. Darling III and his wife Jeanne, Kristin Dominica and her husband Ralph, Linda Brown and her husband Radford, Scott Darling and his wife Gina, Todd Darling and his wife Lisa, Megan Darling and her husband Phil Bird, and 10 grandchildren, Harry, Kate, Eric, Lucas, Scott Rad, Derek, Johanna, Sean, Alexa and Rowan.
Services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
