Kirk A. Kownurko of Washington Crossing, PA died peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was 48.
He was the beloved husband of Karen L. Kane Kownurko for 19 years.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of Marcella Ruth Smith Kownurko of Holland and the late Leonard I. Kownurko who passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011.
Kirk was a resident of Washington Crossing for the past 19 years. He graduated from Council Rock High School, Class of 1980 and received his bachelor degree in Business Finance from Millersville University in 1985. For the past four years, Kirk was employed as a Project Manager with Urban Engineers located in Philadelphia. He had previously worked for various government contracts throughout his career. He was active as a Cub Scout leader for Pack #99 in Newtown. In his leisure time, he enjoyed skiing, airplanes, boating, fishing and cars, particularly the Saab vehicles. The most enjoyment in his life came from spending special times with his wife and children. He will be deeply missed as a devoted husband, father, son and brother.
In addition to his beloved wife and mother, Kirk is survived by his three young children, Lee A., Evan C., Megan R., his three brothers, Nicholas Kownurko and his wife, Virginia, of Newtown, William Kownurko and his wife, Laura Rayburn, of West Chester, Robert Kownurko and his wife, Lisa, of North Wales, as well as several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Sunday evening, February 20, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road) Richboro, PA 18954. His Funeral Service will be conducted along with his father’s Funeral Service on Monday, February 21, 2011, at 11:30 AM at Northampton Presbyterian Church, 539 Buck Road, Holland, PA 18966. Interment will take place at 2:15 PM in Thompson Memorial Cemetery, New Hope following the interment of his father at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Kownurko Children’s Educational Trust Fund, C/O First National Bank & Trust of Newtown, 1121-1 General Washington Memorial Blvd., Washington Crossing, PA 18977.
