Russell B. Darling, Jr. of Holland went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 26, 2011.
Russell was the beloved husband of 59 years to Thelma “Jane” Hogeland Darling.
Born in Philadelphia on May 17, 1924, he was the son of the late Russell B., Sr. and Leona Fehrle Darling.
Russell was a former resident of Fox Chase before moving to Holland in 1954. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1943 until 1946. He participated in the landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day, and later served in the Pacific Theater, both in the Philippines and Japan. Upon returning from the service, he attended and graduated from Penn State University in 1950. He was a brother in the AGR Fraternity and served as Noble Ruler during his senior year.
After his graduation, he worked in the dairy industry. He owned and operated Keystone Dairy in Bristol. Russell later worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Department of Transportation as a Budget Analyst until his retirement. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Bristol and The Gideon’s International and was a Trustee of the historic Old School Baptist Church in Southampton.
After his retirement, Russell enjoyed gardening, reading, painting and having time to visit with his family and friends. He was an active member of The Church of the Good Samaritans in Holland.
Russell was preceded in death by his son, Frank A. Darling in 1993. Russell is survived by his son, Russell B. Darling, III and his wife Susan of Holland, his daughter Christine D. Maven and her husband John of Perkasie, his daughter-in-law Judith L. Becker-Darling of Georgia. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, William R. Maven and Morgan G. Maven.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service at 11:00 am on Saturday April 2, 2011at the Church of the Good Samaritans, 964 Holland Rd. Holland, PA 18966, where the family will receive condolences and have fellowship immediately after the service.
Interment for Russell will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Church of the Good Samaritans at the above named address.
