Frederick J. McDevitt, of the Village Buckingham Springs, died peacefully after a lengthy illness on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Vitas Hospice at Nazareth Hospital, Philadelphia.
He was 86.

He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Josephine E. Stickel McDevitt. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Eichel McDevitt; he was preceded in death by his 5 sisters and 6 brothers.

Fred was a resident of Buckingham Springs for the past 20 years. He was a graduate of Northeast Catholic High School, Class of 1942. A proud veteran of the United States Army he served with the 307th Field Artillery Unit at the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. After serving his country Fred earned his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from LaSalle University.

Fred’s professional career spanned many years working as a financial analyst for several fortune 500 Companies. He retired from Sperry Rand Corporation in 1985.

Fred was a man of many talents. His love of family was paramount, along with his sense of humor. He so loved his family, and he is already sadly missed by all.

In addition to his beloved wife, Fred is also survived by his daughters; Josephine Samsel and her husband Philip of Yardley and Sister Mary McDevitt C.S. F. N. of Philadelphia. He also the proud grandfather of; Jodi Samsel, Dr. Kate Samsel, Amy Samsel and Philip Samsel Jr.

Relatives, friends and religious are invited to attend his viewing Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 10:30am until his Funeral Mass 11:30am at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 235 E. State St. Doylestown, PA 18901. Interment with military honors will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Nazareth Academy High School Family Fund, 4001 Grant Ave. Phila PA 19114. New Britain PA
