Charles Barden Walter passed away peacefully on May 16, 2011 at Neshaminy Manor in Warrington with family members at his side. He was 82 years old.

He was the beloved husband of Charlotte Ivins Walter.

He was the son of the late Russel Bush & Carolyn Nearing Walter and brother of the late Roland Walter and brother-in-law of the late Peg Walter.

Charlie was born in Tioga, PA; not far from Corning, NY. He was a resident of Perkasie for the past 20 years prior to entering the Neshaminy Manor in June of 2009. He received his Bachelor’s degree in 1951 in Physical Science and Mathematics from Lock Haven University and received his Masters degree in Educational Administration from Bucknell University in 1955. He also worked toward his Doctorate at Temple University. He held certificates in education for Physical Science & Mathematics, Pennsylvania Supervising Principal, Pennsylvania Administrative Assistant to Superintendent in Charge of Business Affairs and Pennsylvania Secondary Principal.

Charlie taught mathematics at the Wellsboro Jr.-Sr. High School, Wellsboro, PA from l952 to 1953 and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the Roaring Creek Valley Joint High School in Numidia, PA from 1953 to 1956. In 1956 Charlie came to Lower Bucks County where he taught Mathematics at Benjamin Franklin Jr. High School from 1956 to 1959 and from l960-1964. He was a Guidance Counselor and Instructor of Mathematics at the Woodrow Wilson High School, from 1959 to 1960 in the Bristol Township School District. His other experience was being a Physical Science Aide at the Naval Ordinance Laboratory, White Oak, Maryland. He was the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent in Charge of Business in East Hartford Public Schools, Connecticut for two years.

In 1969, at the creative hand of Raymond Gilbert a prominent Council Rock school board member, Charlie came to work for the Council Rock School District. Charlie gave his heart and soul to the district for over 41 years of service in education, retiring as Director of Business Affairs in July of 1993. Well done, good and faithful servant! While at Council Rock, he placed the welfare of the district in his hands and treated it as a priority. Council Rock benefited from his true dedication, dependability, eagerness, honesty, and leadership. Charlie’s love for children shined through in everything he did. Charlie was active in the Boy Scouts and was especially proud when his son Chuck received the Eagle Scout Award.

Charlie was the proud father of two children, Charlene Borah (Ken) and Charles B. Walter, Jr (Cheryl).

In addition to his beloved wife, and children Charlie is survived by three step-children Dale Hogeland, Drew Hogeland and Dawn Hogeland Cascarino (Steve). He is also survived by his brother Fred Walter of Lititz, PA and his sister Linda Nesbitt from Chicago, IL. He has 8 wonderful grandchildren: Jessica L., Charles B., III, Kenneth, Jr., Thomas, Mackenzie, Melanie, Sean, and Jamie. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews and many cousins. Also his love for his next door neighbor children was a site to behold (Melanie, Natalie, Daniel, Bethany, Victoria and Hannah).

Charlie was a faithful member of Doylestown Presbyterian Church and was so appreciative of the kind support they provided both he and Charlotte during his illness.

Charlie’s family will receive relatives, friends and colleagues prior to his life celebration on Thursday May 26, 2011 from 10:00am until his Memorial Service at 11:00am at the Doylestown Presbyterian Church, 127 East Court St,. Doylestown, PA 18901. Interment will be private.

Since Charlie thoroughly loved the Music Ministry at Doylestown Presbyterian Church, the family would appreciate contributions in his memory be made to them at the above address.
