Martin D. Vogt, of Jamison, Bucks County, died on Monday, May 16, 2011, at Neshaminy Manor. He was 84.
He was the beloved husband of Barbara Lee (Zellers) Vogt.
Born in Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late Martin and Ida Gumpert Vogt.
Mr. Vogt was employed by the Prudential Insurance Co. for 40 years. At the time of his retirement, he was President of Pruco Securities, a Prudential Subsidiary, which oversaw close to 14,000 of Prudential’s agents when they were selling Stock, Bond and Money Market Mutual Funds. Mr. Vogt was also President of several of Prudential’s mutual funds, and on the Board of Directors of a Prudential Trust Company.
After retiring from Prudential, he was elected for 3 years to the Board of Directors of Corporate Life Ins. Co., in West Chester, PA. He also served as President of that company for 2 years.
During World War II, Mr. Vogt was trained at several US Naval Bases as a Radar Operator. His duties included assisting planes in landing through fog conditions. He received two letters of Commendation for his work. He was in Okinawa when the War ended, and then served at a Navy Air Base in Japan.
Mr. Vogt was born and raised in New Jersey. He had also lived in Paradise Valley, AZ before moving to Spring House, PA. While in his 30’s Vogt was honored as “Newark, NJ’s Most Outstanding Young Man of the Year” by Newark Jaycees for his accomplishments in business and his volunteer work over the years in Newark.
His interests included world travel, investments, reading, listening to music and an enjoyment of hiking and walking. In his travels in our Country, he had visited all of our 50 states.
In addition to his beloved wife, Mr. Vogt is also survived by his daughter Virginia Ann and her husband Rockland Saunders, his stepsons William and James Ross, and his grandchildren Ian and Jaclyn Ross.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing, Monday, May 23, 2011 from 9:30 am until his Funeral Service 11:00 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Ave., (Route 202 & Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville, PA. A flag raising ceremony will then occur at 2:30 pm at the Manor at Yorktown in Jamison with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation, 1206 Potomac Street Northwest, Washington D.C., 20007-3211, or Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
