George Kerr, of Hellertown, PA died on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Saucon Valley Manor, with his family at his side. He was 85.
He was the beloved husband of the late Jane S. Kerr.
Born in Dundee, Scotland, he was the son of the late Robert and Susan Fettes Kerr.
Born and raised in Scotland, George served as an ally in the Scottish Army during World War II. He immigrated to the United States in 1958 and settled in Michigan. He was proud to be an American. He said many a time that many were fortunate to have been born American; however, he chose to be.
He worked for Philco-Ford in Michigan and in 1968 was transferred to Willow Grove, PA. He then moved on to work for Henkels and McCoy where he expanded his communications expertise by designing and selling telephone interconnect systems to large and small businesses. His designs were responsible for expanding and streamlining both phone and data transmissions to many businesses throughout the Delaware Valley.
In 1992, George retired and moved to the Lansdale Souderton area. Even though George was “retired” he did not stop working. He was constantly on the go. He moved into the Moravian Village, Bethlehem in 2006. George especially enjoyed ballroom dancing and billiards with his good friends at Moravian Village. His family will always remember and appreciate the energy, enthusiasm, and the love he shared for them and his country.
He is survived by his daughter Anne F. Lesmeister and her husband, Richard, of Allentown, PA, and his son Scott C. Kerr of Elysburg, PA, his 2 sisters Betty McIntosh and Nan McKenzie both of Scotland, and his sister and brother in law Ella and George Robertson of Harleysville. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren, Melissa, Kimberly, Richard Jr., Alicia and Leslie.
His family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, evening June 1, 2011 from 6:30 pm until his Funeral Service at 7:30 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (Route 202 and Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901. Interment will be held privately at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Luke's Hospice, 2455 Black River Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18015.
