Rose L. McCann of Holland passed away peacefully on Monday August 11, 2014 at Twining Village. She was 84.
She was the beloved wife of Joseph E. McCann.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late James and Jane Hunter Larkin.
Rose grew up in West Philadelphia and attended West Catholic High School. She subsequently became a Registered Nurse after studying at the Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing. She later earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Rowan University and completed the School Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Pennsylvania. She was a nurse for the School District of Philadelphia for over 20 years, retiring in the early 1990’s.
After marrying in 1951, Rose and Joe, who was a medic at the Valley Forge Army Hospital, moved to Bucks County where they raised their seven children. She traveled widely during her life from the local and quick trip to the Jersey shore to extensive journeys in Australia/New Zealand, Europe, and Asia. Most important to her was her family and she loved spending time with all of them, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Rose is survived by her children, Marie J. McCann of Langhorne, Joseph E. McCann, Jr. of Philadelphia, Justina Sponder and her husband, Ken, of McCalla, AL, Rita McKeon and her husband, Michael, of Catonsville, MD, Michael T. McCann and his wife, Margaret, of Raleigh, NC, Thomas F. McCann and his wife, Mary, of Avondale, PA, and Jane H. Kaltenbach and her husband Christopher, of White Fish Bay, WI. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday August 16th, 2014 at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Rd., Holland, PA 18966.
Her Funeral Mass will begin immediately after the viewing.
Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 12265 Townsend Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154.
