God’s choir received another beautiful angel on Sunday, July 24, 2011, when Hazel Marie Kaufman went home to be with our Lord, and to be reunited with her beloved husband, Warren, who she missed greatly. We were blessed with her love for 90 years.

Hazel was born the eighth of twelve children in the small town of Gowen City, PA. She was the daughter of coalminer, Oliver Smink and Gertrude Rhoades Smink.

In her twenties, Hazel moved to Philadelphia with her best friends, Dot and Grace. Their next door neighbor asked Hazel to write to his brother was was fighting in Germany during the war. When he came home, it was love at first sight and they had 48 beautiful years together before Warren passed away in 1994.

Hazel has been a resident of Attelboro Assisted Living in Langhorne for the past ten years and formerly lived in Churchville for seven years with her daughter and family. She attended Shamokin High School in Shamokin, PA. Before her retirement in 1976, Hazel was employed as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone for 26 years. She also helped the war effort by working at Bendix during World War II. She was a former member of Willow Grove Senior Citizens. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, was a great singer, and excelled at pinochle. She will be sadly missed as a devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Linda L. Gawel and her husband, Gerald, of Churchville, the joy of her life, her granddaughter, Ginny Gawel and her grandpuppy, Coco. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Haas and her brother, Robert Smink, both of Treverton, PA.

Mom, you will always be our sweetheart.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Thursday, July 28, 2011, from 10:00 AM until her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road), Richboro, PA 18954.

Interment will take place at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville, PA.

The family wants to thank the staff at the Brunswick, Attleboro, for all their love, caring, support and compassion. They were truly a second family for Mom.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the ARIA Community at Brunswick, 310 E. Winchester Avenue, Langhorne, PA 19047.
