Mary McGovern-Krukowski, of Washington Crossing, PA passed away peacefully at home with her loving family and her pal Bailey by her side on August 3, 2011. She was 54.
Mary handled her illness with grace, dignity and courage and was an inspiration to those who knew and loved her. Her warmth, spirit and humor will be remembered by those whose lives she touched. Mary was humbled by the outpouring of love and support given to her from friends and family.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard Krukowski in 2002 and her parents Virginia & William McGovern.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she was raised in Hampton, N.H. and especially enjoyed living in Bucks County, PA.
She was a graduate of Winnacunnet High School, Class of 1974 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Regis College, Weston Massachusetts, Class of 1978.
Immediately after college Mary began a 28 year career in the pharmaceutical industry having spent the last 16 years with Johnson & Johnson. Seen as a pioneer in the field of Patient Advocacy she had a passion for working with patients and their families within the area of oncology through the creation of patient education programs.
Mary was the recipient of numerous awards both from Johnson & Johnson and her customers. Some of her most treasured ones include the J & J Legacy Award, Tribute to Women in Industry Award (TWIN), Cancer Cares Leadership Award, Business and Women’s (BPW) Award.
She was a volunteer to several nursing homes with her dog Bailey, was a fundraiser for the National Brain Tumor Foundation and was a member of the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program.
While Mary enjoyed many activities and hobbies including photography, skiing, reading and travelling her happiest times were spent with family & close friends.
Mrs. McGovern Krukowski is survived by her loving sons, Robert and Scott Krukowski, her dear brother, William McGovern and his wife Kerin, nephew Connor and niece Regan of Roswell, GA; her brother in law Ron Krukowski and his wife Bobbie of Buffalo, NY and their children Chris, Karen, Steven, John & Mary; sister-in-law Diane Lydon and her husband Kevin and daughters Erica & Rachel, and her best friend Kit Schumaker.
The family wishes to thank Cancer Treatment Center of America in New York, Chandler Hall and family and friends for all their support.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Monday, August 8, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro and her Funeral Mass on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Church of St. Andrew, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Her interment will be held privately.
