Mary J. Johnston Kuhn of Buckingham, PA, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was 85.

She was the beloved wife of Theodore Kuhn for 62 years.

Born in Philadelphia and raised in Olney section of Philadelphia, Mary was the daughter of the late Morris W. and Estelle Hefft Johnston and sister of the late Jane Johnston.

Mary was a childhood member of St. James Methodist Church and a graduate of Olney High School in Philadelphia. She was honored to sing in the Accapella Choir under the direction of Theodore Nitsche.

She sang in a well known quartette known as the “Velvetones”, who performed an assortment of gigs and on the radio show “Top Tune Time” singing new music pieces written by emerging writers in the Philadelphia area.

Mary worked at Sears & Roebuck until she married her husband in 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Olney. As a Christian, she served and sang in the choirs of Salem Zion United Church, Lawndale Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia, and St. John’s United Methodist Church of Ivyland.

Mary was a lovely person whose presence was always appreciated with coordinated clothing and a sweetness that exuded love. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family with her culinary creations throughout her life. She will be sorely missed by everyone especially by her husband who truly expects to see her in Heaven in the future.

In addition to her beloved husband, Mary is survived by her 4 daughters; Karen M. Elliott and family of Elkins Park, Kathy J. Heinicke, her husband Karl, and family of Ivyland, Karol Hollar, her husband Tom, and family of Mt. Laurel, N.J. and Kristy Hanisco and her family of Holland. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

Mary’s family will receive friends on Saturday, August 27 from 9:30 AM until her Memorial Service 11:00 AM at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 820 Almshouse Road, Ivyland, PA 18974.

Interment will be private at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Meals on Wheels of Doylestown, 252 Belmont Ave., Doylestown, PA 18901 or to Crossroads Hospice, 300 Lakeside Drive, Suite 120, Horsham, PA 19044
