Grace M. Sullivan of Langhorne died Friday August 26, 2011 at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne. She was 96.
Born in Philadelphia on September 7, 1914, she was the daughter of Walter E. Nussle and Pauline Uhlig Nussle. She married James J. Sullivan on New Year’s Eve, 1936. After her husband’s retirement, they moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida where they remained until 1993. They then returned to the Philadelphia area to reside at Attleboro Retirement Village. Grace’s husband, Jim, preceded her in death on May 27th 2001.
Grace and Jim raised their five children at their homes in Germantown, Ambler and Jenkintown Manor. Summers were spent at their vacation homes in Brigantine and Ocean City, New Jersey. In recent years, the condo in Ocean city was her favorite retreat.
Grace was active and creative her entire life. She taught kindergarten children before raising her own family. She was a long time member of the Questers. She loved to share her enthusiasm for antiques and her collections with others. She was known for her tasteful and artistic displays that she designed in the lobby of Attleboro. Grace gave lectures on Early American cut glass and owned an extensive collection. She also was an artist and ceramist and taught many children and adults in her home studio. She enjoyed flower arranging and worked for many years at Albrecht’s nursery. A volunteer for the Miss America Pageant for over 30 years, she used her theatrical talents to form the Attleboro Players and entertained the residents of the facility for many years. She loved to throw great parties at all of the many places she resided and at the Brigantine Yacht Club. Her greatest talent; however, was to entertain her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bubba, as she was called, had a special bond with all 32. They will miss her terribly.
Grace is survived by her dearest children and their spouses, Robert M. and Sigrid Sullivan of Florida, Carol J. and William Boland of Ocean City, NJ, Jane S. and John Gibbons of Langhorne Manor, Maggie and Doug Magee of Downingtown, PA, James J., Jr. and Terry Sullivan of West Chester, PA. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
