William Edward Mahoney of Lansdale, PA, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 8th, 2011, at Abington Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 71.
He was the beloved husband of Veronica Sweeney Mahoney.
Born in 1939, Bill was the son of the late Thomas and Marie Reilly Mahoney.
While Bill was still in grade school, the Mahoney family moved to St. Martin of Tours parish in the Oxford Circle section of Philadelphia. The Mahoney’s shared a stoop with the Sweeney family, and it was not long before Bill noticed Ronnie Sweeney, “the girl next door.” They dated throughout high school and were married in 1962, a marriage that lasted almost 50 years.
Once married, Bill and Ronnie bought a house in Parkwood Manor in the Greater Northeast, and had their six children in the span of seven years. While working full-time as a truck driver, Bill attended the night-school program at LaSalle College. After graduating in 1965, Bill went on to work in the human resources field, first at RCA in Camden and later at Tastykake in Philadelphia. Bill spent 30 years at Tastykake, eventually rising to the position of Vice President of Human Resources.
Bill enjoyed spending summers at the Jersey shore, and winters in Naples, Florida. But more than all else, he loved sharing good times with his family and dear friends. Bill had a gift for making everyone around him laugh and enjoy life. As a husband, father, brother, friend, and Pop-Pop, Bill enriched every life he entered. He passed too soon, and will be sorely missed.
In addition to his wife Veronica, William is survived by his loving children Maureen Mirabella and her husband John of Montgomeryville, PA, Kathleen Mahoney of Gaithersburg, MD, Colleen Mahoney of Gaithersburg, MD, William E. Mahoney and his wife Denise of Abington, Patricia Hyduk and her husband Mark of Doylestown, and Veronica Coyle of New Hope, his brother Thomas Mahoney and his 3 sisters Helen Kane, Nancy O’Connor and Elizabeth Kahrimanian. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren.
His family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday evening, November 13, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (Route 202 and Sandy Ridge Rd.), New Britain, PA 18901 and attend his Funeral Mass 10:00AM, Monday, November 14, 2011 at Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 1325 Upper State Rd., North Wales, PA, 19454. Interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church at the above address.
