Walter F. Smith, of Ann’s Choice, Warminster, formerly of Newtown, died on Thursday, November 10, 2011, at St. Mary Medical Center. He was 85.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mary K. Smith.
Born in New York, he was the son of the late Robert and Lillian Wares Smith.
Walter was raised in New York City, and served in the Navy during World War II. He returned home after the war, began his career in construction and became a tried and true union man. In 1989 he and his wife moved to Newtown, however, like a good New Yorker, he brought his sports teams with him, and would always remain a Rangers, Mets and Giants fan.
After moving to Newtown, it did not take much for Walter to settle into the community. As his faith was an extension of who he was and what he represented, he served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary Medical Center where he also volunteered for over 20 years. While living in Newtown, he was an active communicant at the Church of St. Andrew and after moving to Ann’s Choice in 2005 he joined St. Vincent de Paul Church. Then once he was at Ann’s Choice, his constant desire to be involved, coupled with his devotion to the Catholic Church motivated him to be part of Catholic Council for many years.
His kind, compassionate, and wonderful ways along with his quick wit and great sense of humor will be missed. However we are comforted knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved wife and childhood sweetheart, Mary, to whom he was married for over 60 years.
He is survived by his children Christine Capasso and her husband Augustine of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, Kathleen Lesch and her husband Daniel of Port St. Lucie, FL, Kevin Smith of Newtown, and his brother Robert Smith of Bergen County, NJ. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Scott Albert, Brendan and Shannon Smith, Mark and Tara Capasso, and Donna Nardiello and his 4 great-grandchildren, Shaina Albert, Andrew, Connor and James Nardiello.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewings, Monday, November 14, 2011 from 2:00 — 4:00 pm and 7:00 — 9:00 pm and on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, from 9:00-10:00 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home Funeral, 800 Newtown Richboro Road. (at Holland Rd) Richboro, PA 18954 and to his Funeral Mass 10:30am, at the Church of St. Andrew.
Interment will follow in Newtown Cemetery, Newtown.
