Jean M. Neel Carney, of Doylestown, died on Thursday, November 17, 2011, with her loving family at her side at her home. She was 77.
She was the beloved wife of 56 years to John Arthur Carney Jr. Born in Methuen, MA; she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Genevieve Clancy Neel.
Jean was a resident of Doylestown for the past 33 years. She was a graduate St. Mary’s High School in Lawrence, MA and in 1955; she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Merrimack College.
After graduation, Jean taught at Center School in Hampton, NH. She has been a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. She was an avid bridge player, voracious reader and a loyal Boston Red Sox fan.
In addition to her beloved husband, she survived by her caring children and their spouses: Kathy C. Trevino and her husband Robert of Texas, John A. Carney and his wife Kathleen of Tennessee, Ellen Dunn of Texas, Thomas P. Carney and his wife Laura of Texas, Linda Ness and her husband Michael of Harrisburg, and Mary Lou Ashworth and her husband Barry of Doylestown, one brother Richard Neel and his wife Ann of New Hampshire, she is also survived by 13 dear grandchildren and 6 precious great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewings Sunday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and on Monday from 815 am to 9:15am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 241 E. Butler Ave. (Rt. 202 and Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain and to her Funeral Mass 10:00am Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 E. State St. Doylestown.
Interment will be private in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence, MA.
In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to Merrimack College, 315 Turnpike Street, North Andover, MA 01845 or Penn Transplant House, 3535 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
