Jack King Callender, Sr., of Langhorne, died peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2011, at St. Mary Medical Center with his family at his side. He was 80.

He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Marjorie Libby Callender. Born in Binghamton, NY, he was the son of the late Benjamin King and Callie R. Smith Callender and devoted father of the late Jack King Callender, Jr. who died in May of this year.

Jack was a graduate of Binghamton North High School class of 1950. He was a resident of Middletown Township for the past 50 years. His professional career with General Electric spanned 41 years, beginning in Schenectady, New York as a graduate of GE apprenticeship course and then mostly in the space division at King of Prussia until his retirement in 1991. With his Mechanical Engineering background, he worked as a Special project manager on Solar Conductors as well as Fuel Systems and other projects involving space travel.

Jack was a proud veteran of the US Navy who traveled the world on the USS Newman K. Perry.

Jack balanced work and home well. He was the founder and first President of the Maple Point Cougar Football Booster Club in 1975. Jack was a Dad who coached not only his son but many others who played for the Middletown Athletic Association’s, football and baseball teams.

Sports were a big part of his life. He was a loyal Phillies and Eagles fan and also was a cherished fan of his son, grandsons and all others at any given match or game he attended. He was a mentor to kids through the church and in the neighborhood as well. He enjoyed a round of golf and time with friends.

Jack was a man of God and a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. He served on numerous church administrative, educational and missionary committees over the years. He is an active member of the United Methodist Church of Langhorne and attends the Orson Methodist Church in Orson, PA in the summer.

He was fortunate to spend most summers of his life at Wrighter’s Lake in Thompson, PA where he along side his father and uncle built a cottage in his early youth.
Jack will be deeply missed for his personable welcoming nature, and funny light hearted positive approach to every day.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his caring daughter, Joy Callender of CO, his supportative daughter-in-law, Sandy Callender of Ivyland, and his 3 devoted grandsons, Jack III, Jamie S, and Tyler S. Callender.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday evening November 25, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and on Saturday, November 26 from 1:00pm until his Funeral Service 2:00pm at St. John’s United Methodist Church 820 Almshouse Rd. Ivyland, PA 18974.

Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Richboro.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Langhorne United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 301 E. Maple Ave. Langhorne, PA 19047
