Herbert K. Speers M.D., of Warminster and formerly of Langhorne, PA, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011. He was 88.

He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Katharine Swint Speers.

Born in Philadelphia, Dr. Speers was the son of the late Robert and Ada Johnston Speers and brother of the late Robert Speers.

Dr. Speers was proud to be a veteran of the Army during World War II and a veteran of the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Herb graduated from Northeast Public High School in 1941 and attended the University of Pennsylvania for a few years before enlisting in the Army. During his enlistment, Herb was part of a special program that sent him to Ohio State University Medical School. In 1949, Herb graduated as a Medical Doctor from Ohio State University Medical School and then he went on to start and complete his medical internship at the University of Maryland Hospital. In 1953, he started his Ob-Gyn residency at Abington Memorial Hospital.

Herb practiced medicine in Levittown from 1957 to his retirement in 1995 serving 3 of the areas local hospitals; Lower Bucks, St. Mary’s, and Abington Memorial Hospitals. Dr. Speers was instrumental in the founding of the Planned Parenthood Program for Bucks County and served as a Charter Member and also as Medical Director.

Herb enjoyed spending time with his family and creating everlasting memories that they will cherish forever. He will be sorely missed by everyone who has come to know and love him for the person and the Doctor whom he was.

In addition to his beloved wife Katharine, He is also survived by his loving children; Karen D. Lautzenheiser and her husband Wade of North Canton, OH, Nancy L. Wright of Warminster, PA, Kathleen A. Lugosch and her Husband Eric of Evanston, IL, and Kenneth P. Speers and his wife Marie of Yardley, PA. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Michael, Christine, Tyler, Adam, Kelly, and Stephanie .

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 from 9:00 AM until his Funeral Service 10:00 AM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road) Richboro, PA 18954.

Interment will follow at Newtown Cemetery, Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Doctors without Borders, P.O. Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or to a charity of the donor’s Choice.
