Marvin A. “Mickey” Kolman, of Delray Beach FL, formerly of Doylestown, PA died on Sunday, January 8, 2012. He was 90.
He was the beloved husband of the late Marion Condé Kolman and brother of the late Rhea Bayder.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Solomon and Sadie Tulbovitz Kolman
Mickey grew up in Philadelphia, graduated from Olney High School and went on to the University of Pennsylvania. He withdrew after two years and enlisted into the U.S. Army, and was sent to Officer Training School. He was then stationed in the Panama Canal Zone where he served as a 1st Lieutenant. After his time in the army he returned to college, this time to New York University, graduating in 1947 with a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering.
In 1950 he married his beloved Marion, and they moved to Feasterville, PA, where he began his career as an industrial engineer working for various toy companies. Then, in 1963, they moved to Doylestown where they raised their family. He was a talented engineer and his skills were sought after by many companies. He accepted a position in 1970 with SPS Technologies in Flemington, NJ in their office furniture division and remained there until the early 1980’s when he joined Mohawk Devices in Doylestown.
Mickey was always active in the Doylestown community. He played on many recreational softball teams where he was a talented pitcher into his seventies, and coached several girls’ softball teams over the years. However, it was his wife’s passion for the theater, specifically the Town and Country Players that received most of his time. Although he participated by acting in some productions, his talents were best used behind the scenes by spearheading many renovation projects and by serving as president of the board. They made many close friends during their time there and loved the camaraderie that came from the theater.
The stage was not the only place where he spent his time. Doylestown Hospital received countless hours of volunteer service from him. He worked thousands of hours over twelve years as a Transportation Volunteer and loved helping those in need. Then, at the age of 82, after he became a widower, he moved permanently to Florida.
He is survived by his sons Michael S. Kolman and his wife, Sally, of Westerville, OH, Dr. Peter S. Kolman of Springtown, PA, Matthew H. Kolman and his wife, Flora, of Doylestown, PA, and his dear friend Bernice “Buddy” Cohen of Delray Beach, FL, his grandchildren; Brendan Kolman, Jared Kolman and his wife Jamie, Marissa Kolman, John R. Andre III, Flori Buoy and her husband Kasey, Donald Perkins and his wife Christina, and Elisabeth Perkins. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren John R. Andre IV, Sofia Andre, Olivia Buoy, Abigail Buoy and Simon Matthew Buoy. His family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 5:00 pm; a Memorial Service will follow at 6:30 pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Ave. (Route 202 & Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901.
His interment will be held privately by the family.
