Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late G. Robert and Clara Streeper Havener and brother of the late David Havener.
Michael grew up in Collegeville, where he excelled at school and in many sports. At Lehigh, he also met the woman who would become his beloved wife of 33 years, Margaret “Peg” R. Havener.
Michael began working as a civil engineer for Layne New York/Hydro Group the day after he graduated from Lehigh and he remained with that firm, through its purchase by Layne Christensen Co., until his death. Michael was a Licensed Professional Engineer and was recognized throughout the country as an expert in water treatment and supply for municipalities and corporations. He was also active in his community, coaching teams across many sports and seasons for the Lenape Valley Recreation Council and serving at times as a commissioner and in other capacities for the Council’s baseball and basketball leagues.
In addition to his loving wife, Michael is survived by his children Christopher D. Havener and his wife Siobhan C. Havener of Philadelphia, Matthew B. Havener and Kimberly A. Brown of West Conshohocken, and Cara G. Havener of New Britain, and also by his sister-in-law Barbara R. Alec, her husband Michael A. Alec, and their son William R.
