Hildegard R. DeSimone, of New Hope, PA died on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at St. Mary Medical Center, with her family by her side. She was 80.
She was the beloved wife of 52 years to Alvin F. DeSimone.
Born in Munich, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Hans and Centa Sauer Lommer. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Franzeska (Lommer) Scherer of Munich.
Hildegard spent her formative years in Germany and moved to the United States in 1956. She met her beloved Alvin in 1959 and then married on April 30, 1960. They settled in North East, PA just outside of Erie, where they lived for over 47 years. She worked for many years as a cook at North East Elementary School.
Hildegard was athletically gifted and loved being outside, and in her younger years was a talented ice skater and skier. As a mother and a wife she enjoyed spending time with her family riding bikes and swimming at the beaches of Lake Erie. She loved the opera, classical music, playing piano, and was very creative, knitting beautiful blankets, booties, and clothes for family members. It was in 2007 when she and Alvin moved to New Hope to be closer to their children and often said that she was very happy to be here.
She was always welcoming to all who met her, treating strangers as new friends. Many of her children’s friends often commented on the happy household she provided and that she was like a second mother to them. Hilda was always giving of herself, anticipating others’ needs and offering to help in any way she could. She was very selfless, travelling for hours by bus to visit her family members. Family was first and foremost. She provided unconditional love and support to all who knew her and had an especially close bond with her grandchildren. She was a true Christian by the way she lived her life.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Eric DeSimone and Marianne of Yardley, Andre DeSimone and Jamila of Nairobi, Kenya, and Rita DeSimone Schnell and Jonathan of Newtown, her two brothers Johann and Walter Lommer, as well as extended family who reside in Germany. She is also survived by her five dear grandchildren, Alex and Marissa Schnell, Stephanie and Michael DeSimone and Jasmin DeSimone. Hilda also had a very special relationship with her sister-in-law, Shirley DeSimone and her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 8:30am to 9:30am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro and to her Funeral Mass 10:00am at the Church of St. Andrew, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
Her interment will be in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Langhorne.
