Donald E. Kocher of Doylestown, PA died after a brief illness on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Doylestown Hospital. He was 84.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Jane Orletski Kocher.
Born in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Daisy Kaufman Kocher, and brother of the late Ann Kocher.
Mr. Kocher was a resident of Doylestown since 1960. He was a proud Navy veteran having served in World War II. Mr. Kocher earned his bachelor’s degree in Biological Science from Lock Haven University in 1950, a master’s degree in Educational Psychology from Western Maryland in 1958, and a master’s degree in Geology from Franklin & Marshall College in 1971. Mr. Kocher was a teacher for 22 years at the Hatboro-Horsham School District where he taught earth and space sciences before his retirement in 1982. He was a former elder of Doylestown Presbyterian Church, served as a Democratic Committeeman for Doylestown Township, and worked with the Doylestown FISH service. Mr. Kocher was an avid fan of college basketball in his leisure time. He will be sadly missed as a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all who knew him.
He is survived by his three children, Eric D. Kocher of Doylestown, Gregg E. Kocher and his wife, Janet, of Festus, MO, Kim Kocher of Philadelphia, his brother, Charles Kocher and his wife, Lois, of Pittsburgh, PA, and two sisters, Gaynelle Heim of Green Acres, FL and Linda Beidel and her husband, Larry, of Edgecomb, ME. He is also survived by his two loving granddaughters, Analicia and Amanda Kocher.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, March 24, 2012, from 10:00 AM until his Funeral Service 11:00 AM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Avenue (Route 202 and Sandy Ridge Road), New Britain, PA 18901.
Interment will take place at Beulah Cemetery, New Britain.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Bucks County Housing Group, P.O. Box 151, Fountainville, PA 18923.
