Charles H. Diamond, Jr. Ph. D, of New Hope, PA died peacefully on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at his residence. He was 76.
He was the beloved husband of 22 years to Roseann Cimini Diamond. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Ursula Denneny Diamond and brother of the late Dorothy Diamond.
Charles was a resident of the New Hope - Solebury area for the past 40 years. Charles was a graduate of St. Joseph Preparatory School; St. Charles Seminary where he received his bachelor’s degree; Villanova University, where he earned master’s degrees in History and Educational Administration and the University of Pennsylvania where he earned his Doctorate in Education.
Charles was a former Roman Catholic priest, serving the Archdiocese of Philadelphia over three decades. His career spanned many different professions, for the past 10 years he has been Executive Director of the Bucks County Housing and Development Corporation, a non-profit corporation that provides housing for low and moderate income families throughout Bucks County, which owns and manages over 26 properties in the County. Charles dedicated his life to serving others and took pride in giving all he could to those in need so that they could better their lives.
Charles was a former member of the Board of Directors of Redeemer Village, Huntingdon Valley; The Academy of Preachers, Lutheran Seminary and the Philadelphia Martin Luther King, Jr. Association for Nonviolence. He was also the recipient of the Community Service Award, West Philadelphia Branch of N.A.A.C.P., WCAU-TV-10- Spirit of Philadelphia Award and the Philadelphia Tribune Charities Humanitarian Award. The City Council of Philadelphia commended him for his work in helping the community during and after the MOVE confrontation in 1986.
He was an avid reader, mostly of American and European History. He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife Roseann, his sons Joseph F. Moran, III of Philadelphia and Sean M. Moran and his wife Heather of Levittown; he was devoted to his 4 caring grandchildren: Hannah, Ryann, Rebecca and Joy.
Charles’ family will receive condolences on Wednesday March 21, 2012 from 10:00am until his Memorial Service 11:00am at the Church of St. Andrew, 81 Swamp Rd., Newtown. Interment will be private.
