James J. Nolan, of Newtown died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, March 31, 2012 in Newtown, PA. He was 85.
Born in Malvern PA, he was the son of the late James J. and Susan M. Murray Nolan, and was preceded in death by his brother, William Nolan.
Jim was a resident of Newtown for the past 20 years. He was a graduate of Malvern Preparatory School; he received his under graduate degree from Villanova University and his Masters Degree in Counseling from Temple University. His teaching career spanned many years, having taught Social Studies and History in the Neshaminy and Upper Merion School Districts. He retired from the Centennial School District in 1987 after serving as a Teacher and Guidance Counselor for over 20 years. He was a proud member of the United States Navy after enlisting in February 1945 and being trained as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate he was discharged in August 1946. Following his service in the U.S Navy Reserve and discharge in October 1950 he sailed the world with the U.S. Merchant Marine.
Jim was proud of his Irish heritage and loved all things Irish. He was an accomplished Irish Dancer, travelling and performing with the Timoney Dancers at many social affairs and competitions. He was a long time and devoted fan of Villanova basketball, the Phillies, and 76’ers.
He is survived by his three sons; James A. Nolan, and his wife Anita of New Hope, Patrick J. Nolan, and his wife Elizabeth of Doylestown, and Brendan F. Nolan of New Hope, his six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 12noon until his Funeral Service 1:00PM, at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 241 E. Butler Ave., (Rt. 202 & Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901. Interment will follow at Doylestown Cemetery, Doylestown, PA.
In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to the Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus 1739 Ferry Ave. Camden NJ 08104.
