Thomas H. Sheridan

October 1st, 2017

Thomas H. Sheridan of Yardley passed away on October 1, 2017 following a recent diagnosis of liver cancer.  He was 62.  Tom died peacefully at home surrounded by his family and beloved companion Sheila Papa.

Tom was the devoted father of three beautiful children: Anna, Olivia, and Roman.  All three were adopted from Russia.  Tom and his former wife, Judith Curlee, initially intended to adopt one child.  Then they decided to get a sister for Anna.  But on their second visit to Russia, to complete the adoption of Olivia, while at the orphanage (where children do not cry because as infants they learn that crying does not draw attention), a little boy named Roman grabbed hold of him and would not let go.  That moment went straight to Tom’s heart and the rest is history.  The hurdle of navigating the Russian court system to adopt even one child, let alone three, is daunting.  Not for Tom.  He and Judy would make a third trip back to Russia to bring home their son.

Tom attended Drexel University and earned BS in Industrial Engineering an MBA in Finance. Tom was the Executive Vice President of Keystone Answering Service for 21 years and was also the owner of Allgood Communications, Inc. located in Pueblo, Colorado. Because of his intellect, interests, and work ethic, Tom was a successful businessman throughout his life. He was a Renaissance Man, a rare blend of entrepreneur, engineer, and was a leader in the telephone answering service industry. He played an integral role in the development of the industry's certification programs.

Thomas was President of the Canadian Call Management Association from 2011-2012, served on the Board of Directors for Real Partners Uganda 2011-2013, and was President of Vassar Square Condominium Association, his vacation haven by the sea from 2014 until present.

In keeping with Tom's generous spirit, sense of adventure, love of family and travel, Tom made three trips to Uganda to help develop a pilot school called Mustard Seed Academy. He learned of this mission from his sister Signe Culleny when two members of her church created Real Partners Uganda and opened a school in Lukaya, Uganda with 40 students in 2003. Tom's first trip was in 2010 and his primary focus was to chaperone and support his 16-year-old nephew Luke Culleny film Service Safari: Mission of Hope; a feature documentary project showcasing the innovative school and its students. Tom also began to brainstorm and make plans to implement a solar powered water project.

In 2011, Tom returned and pioneered the water project to supply Kalungi Health Center, a small rural clinic with fresh water from a spring nearly half a mile away by getting solar power and piping installed.  The piping still serves the clinic which has now grown into a small hospital and licensed nursing school headed by Tom’s friend, Dr. Peter Kizza. In 2016, Tom returned to Uganda with his beloved partner Sheila Papa and together they set up a computer laboratory at Mustard Seed Academy. It has become a vital facility for the school and is the only one in the area with 24/7 wifi service.

Tom worked hard, played hard, traveled, read widely, mastered photography, could fix anything electrical, mechanical, or numerical, treasured his time and travel with Sheila, and taught many life lessons to his children and anyone who knew him.  Tom was a philosopher, problem-solver, humanitarian and his kindness, generosity and benevolence had no bounds.

Tom is predeceased by his father, Philadelphia radio personality Phil "Uncle Philsie" Sheridan and his brother Larry Sheridan.

He is survived by his mother Louise Sheridan, beloved companion Sheila Papa, beautiful children Anna, Olivia, and Roman Sheridan, sisters Cheri Sheridan and Signe Culleny and their extended families and many colleagues and dear friends.

Tom's family wishes to thank Anthony Mannino, M.D. his longtime friend and physician, along with the kind staff at Aria Hospital, Torresdale, and the Compassionate Care hospice nurses Monica Eafrati and Ellen Jacobs for shepherding Tom and his family to his final rest.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the church of Sacred Heart, 343 South Broad Street, Trenton, New Jersey where the family will receive visitors from 9:00-10:00 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s memory to the Trenton Soup Kitchen, 72 Escher St., Trenton, NJ 08609 or to Real Partners Uganda, 523 LaFayette Blvd., Brigantine, NJ 08203.

Daniel William Silverstein

September 29th, 2017

Daniel William Silverstein, of Newtown, PA died on September 29th, 2017 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, in Langhorne, PA. He was 32.

He was the beloved husband of Carrie Ann Ryan Silverstein. The two were married for eight years.

Born in Aurora, CO, Daniel was the son of Robert Mark and Kimberly Knuth Silverstein.

Daniel forever had a smile on his face. The first thing people would comment on when they saw him was his smile…and his beard.

Daniel graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry from the University of Colorado at Denver in the spring of 2008. He earned his doctorate in Chemistry from Penn State University in 2013 after completing a thesis with a focus in computational quantum chemistry. After a short post-doctoral appointment at the University of Chicago he began work at the Universal Display Corporation in 2014.

Daniel was an avid video gamer who helplessly tried to teach his wife how to play all the games he loved. He only succeeded with a few, but the two of them played together often. Recently, he and his wife had become avid bakers, and each weekend, they tried a new recipe from their beloved show, The Great British Bake Off, as well as a few more that required just a bit of chemistry to get right.

Daniel was known as the “Cat Whisperer” to many who knew him. Not only was his home full of cats growing up and then again when he and Carrie bought their home, but strays came up to him out of nowhere just for love. Daniel never let a cat go without a pet or two. He was also loved by his sister-in-law’s dog, Brody, who didn’t quite understand that a Golden Retriever was not a lap dog. Daniel did not care that the dog almost weighed as much as he did and bonded with Brody as tightly as he had with his cats. Daniel and Carrie’s remaining cats, Maxie, Cane, Bingo, and Sundae are considered their children, and they will miss him fiercely.

Daniel was also known as “Dr. Hubby” to Carrie’s readers and spent countless hours helping her with her career. He was the cornerstone of her team and inspiration.

In addition to his loving wife, and his parents, Daniel is survived by his brother, Tim Silverstein, sister-in-law, Carolina, and his niece and nephew, Mia Elizabeth and Eric William.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Daniel’s Memorial Gathering on Thursday, October 5, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until the start of the Time of Remembrance—1:30 pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro, PA 18954.

Interment will take place privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to www.PDSA.org in Daniel’s honor.
