Robert D. McIlhinney

January 18th, 2018

Bob passed peacefully into eternal life on January 18, 2018.  Born in Philadelphia, he was the fifth son of nine children born to John Bernard “J” McIlhinney and Adelene “Dillie” McIlhinney (DeLarso).  At the time of his passing, he was a resident of Doylestown Borough, Pa.

Bob was a man imbued with an innate and strong spirit of fearlessness, optimism, determination and immeasurable energy, which he applied to all of life’s challenges and personal endeavors.
He remains a role model to all on how to live an exciting, rewarding life of fullness.  Sixty-seven (67) years will never be long enough for those of us who knew and loved him.  We were fortunate to be graced with his “larger than life” presence.  He was a true renaissance man redefined by our modern times.   Bob was a man who wore many hats, and did so with fervor and dedication to the smallest of details regardless of the difficulty of the task at hand.

He was a Master electrician, realtor, builder, screen writer, producer, and an amazing actor. Bob loved to play the game of baseball. He was an excellent shortstop and an avid Phillies fan since early youth. Bob was a lover of all animals, especially his race horses “Lodi”, “Vendetta” and “Crazy Cousin John”. He was a masterful partaker in the “Sport of Kings”.  Bob was a great sportsman who loved small game hunting for pheasant and archery hunting for deer. He was also an outstanding fisherman, though there is some controversy as to who caught the most Yellowtail Snapper while on a fishing excursion with his brothers Jim and Den in the Florida Keys this past March. Bob wished he could have fished more often with his family and friends, and his advice to all was everyone should take the “opportunity of time” while it is still available.  His quick wit, sense of humor, twinkling eyes, and enormous personality will be sadly missed.   Bob graduated from Archbishop Wood High School, Class of 1968, and attended Belmont Abbey College, NC.

Bob fought a valiant battle to reclaim his health against formidable odds.  Always aware and in control, Bob peacefully surrendered his soul to his Almighty Father when he was called Home while surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was predeceased by his parents and his son, Robert Alexander McIlhinney.  He is survived by his daughter Heather McIlhinney (Jeremy Sanchez), and Grandson Myles Sanchez. Bob is also survived by the love of his life for the past 15 years, Teresa Valdez, and stepsons, Michael Valdez and Christopher Valdez.  Additionally he is survived by siblings Charles T. Sr. , John B. (Linda), Joseph V. (Susan), James F.X. (Maureen), Dennis J. (Linda K.) Deborah Lee Harrison (Peter), Thomas C. (Cindy), Marybeth Hanson (Robert), and numerous relatives including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bob’s family will receive friends on Thursday Eve, January 25th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.), New Britain, PA 18901 and at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 East State St., Doylestown, PA 18901 on Friday, January 26th  from 9:00am until his Funeral Mass 10:30am.  Interment will follow at Doylestown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for the care and shelter of retired racehorses via the New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program - www.horseadoption.com/make-a-memorial-donation/  In memory of Bob McIlhinney PO Box 77 Holicong, PA 18928.

John F. Fitzpatrick

January 16th, 2018

John F. Fitzpatrick of Upper Pottsgrove and formerly a long time resident of Northeast Philadelphia, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at Reading Hospital.  He was 90.

John was the husband of the late Margaret Van Winkle Fitzpatrick with whom he had shared 34 years of marriage.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late John and Kathryn Flynn Fitzpatrick.

John attended Northeast High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during World War II.  During his service he played a role in working to liberate the Dachau concentration camp and would later find out that his efforts helped to free a man who later became part of his extended family.

John led a long and proud career as a truck driver, a career that would end up being passed down to others in his family which was a bond he held very close to his heart.  He was an all around handy man, loved horses and dogs and was steadfastly devoted to his family.

John was reserved in many ways; never wanting to be a burden on others.  He was the most happy when he was with his family and took great pride in watching his family grow over the years.  He loved to just sit back and watch as they gathered for family events and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his children, Maryanne McHale (Mark) of Philadelphia, Kathryn Lennox (Gene) of Upper Pottsgrove; his grandchildren, Kevin Lennox, Timothy McHale, and Colleen Lennox and his sisters-in-law, Louise and Mary Fitzpatrick and Jean Van Winkle.  He also leaves behind 11 nieces and nephews: Louise, Linda, Joe, Bud, John, Barbara, Carol, Lisa, Joanne, Megan and Sean; 14 great nieces and nephews and 4 great-great nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Schneider (Schaeffer)

January 15th, 2018

Elizabeth C. Schneider (nee Schaeffer), of Southampton, PA, after a courageous 22-month battle with cancer, died peacefully with her family at her side at the inpatient hospice unit of Holy Redeemer Hospital on Friday, January 12, 2018.  She was 58 years old.

She was the beloved wife of Bernardin “Bernie” M. Schneider for 35 years.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of Joseph Schaeffer of Emmaus, PA and Maria Birgel Liberto of Langhorne, PA.  She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Mathias and Franziska Birgel; her stepfather, Charles Liberto; her stepmother, Eleanor Schaeffer; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emil and Franziska Schneider; her Weimaraner, Angel; her beloved Beagle, Moose; and her rescue, Maggie.

In addition to her loving husband and parents, she is survived by her son Paul Schneider of Los Angeles, CA and her son and daughter-in-law Edward and Sharnell Wharton of Doylestown.  She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Sage and Anthony Wharton; her brother, Joseph Schaeffer of Langhorne; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Anne and Joseph Fusco of Holland, PA, her stepbrother Vincent Liberto of Baltimore, MD; numerous other relatives and dear friends; and her perpetually hungry puppy, Skeeter.

Liz was a true Renaissance woman.

She loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends and helping anyone in need.  She was an avid gardener and loved animals.  Liz enjoyed adventures in the great outdoors and loved to go fishing, camping, hiking and so much more.  She also traveled to many places both near and far.

Liz was a fantastic cook, a creative crafter, crocheted beautiful blankets and scarves, and had a knack for decorating and design. In the last few months of her life, she found great peace in using her colored pencils to color in intricate designs and then use these creations to make cards and bookmarks that she would gift to her family and friends.

She obtained her Master’s Degree in Social Work and began her professional career working with at-risk adolescents.  Her first job as a social worker was working in Texas at a wilderness camp for teenage girls.

Liz also had a real estate license and worked for several years as a realtor.  While working fulltime, raising a family and taking care of her home, Liz also managed the family business known as Schneider Brothers.

She was most passionate about her final career, that as a hospice social worker.  Nothing was too much for Liz when it came to meeting her clients’ needs. She worked tirelessly to see that they were met.

Liz devoted her personal and professional life to helping others. She drew her strength and nearly inexhaustible energy from the beauty of God’s creations in nature. She put other’s needs ahead of her own and was the protector, supporter, and nurturer of her family and friends.  Liz had an uncanny ability to connect with people emotionally and spiritually and often understood a person’s problem before the person knew it.

Liz’s family will receive relatives and friends at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 2nd St. Pike and Knowles Avenue in Southampton, PA 18966, on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 9:00AM until 10:30 AM.  Her funeral Mass will begin “promptly” at 11:00.  Her interment will be held privately.

Liz gave of herself freely, helping all those in need with never expecting anything in return. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, her family asks that “random acts of kindness” be performed in memory of Liz.  Also, if you wish, a donation in memory of Liz to Children Tabor Services, would be appreciated.  Checks can be mailed to Children Tabor Services at 57 East Armat Street, Philadelphia, PA 19144.  Please write Elizabeth Schneider in the memo portion of your check.

Upon losing Carlton, Eleanor moved to Southampton Estates in Bucks Co., became a member of North & Southampton Reformed Church once again, and lived a full, active life swimming, playing shuffleboard, getting together with family and meeting up with old friends at the retirement community. Her home was filled with all the pictures of her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and these photos obviously were the heart and soul of her home. Eleanor loved reading books on her Kindle, and kept in touch with far-off family members through Facebook and Face Time.  For someone of her generation, her technological abilities were amazing!
