Joan W. Castrantas (Wallace)

November 17th, 2013

Joan W. Castrantas, of Newtown, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at her residence. She was 78.

Born in Buffalo, New York, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Christine Brader Wallace. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Harry as well as her daughter Mary Jo Castrantas and her grandson Alexander Castrantas.

Joan was a 1956 graduate of the University of Buffalo, earning her nursing degree in conjunction with Buffalo General Hospital. She met her future husband while in college, and they were married soon after graduation in September of 1956. Shortly after, they moved to Trenton, NJ, where she was employed as a registered nurse at various hospitals. In 1973, her family moved to Newtown. She worked for many years for Dr. Howard A. Leister, a family doctor from Newtown as well as several different nursing homes in Bucks County.

In her free time she enjoyed reading, gardening, volunteering and keeping her house tidy. She loved spending time with her family in their summer home in Maine, and would stay there over the summer months with her husband.

Joan was a loving mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Christine Zerrer of Pacifica, CA; her sons: Mark E. Castrantas and his wife Lorraine of Richboro, PA and Paul D. Castrantas of Philadelphia, PA; and her grandchildren: Cassidy, Andrew, Lauren, Bryan, Adam, Timothy and Kory; and her great granddaughter: Isabella.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00am in the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, 1505 Makefield Rd., Morrisville, PA 19067, and are invited to visit with the family immediately after the service. Interment will be private.

Robert E. Westaby

November 16th, 2013

Robert E. Westaby of Huntingdon Valley, PA died suddenly on Saturday, November 16, 2013, while working at his mother-in-law’s home in Churchville. He was 69.

He was the beloved husband of Joyce Homan Westaby for the past 44 years.

Born in Gary, Indiana, he was the son of the late Stephen and Frances Smith Westaby.

Bob was a resident of Huntingdon Valley for the past 45 years. He was a graduate of Council Rock High School, Class of 1963. Bob retired in 1996 after being employed for over 33 years as a Systems Analyst for US Steel Company at the Fairless Hills plant.

Bob was very handy and enjoyed working around his home and would always find a project for the winter months. He was never without his faithful companion, Bear, who is a golden retriever dog.

In addition to his beloved wife, Bob is survived by his son Stephen E. Westaby and his wife, Daisy, and his daughter Kimberley Westaby-Danner. He is also survived by 3 devoted granddaughters.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, November 30, 2013, from 11:30 AM until his Memorial Service 12:30 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road), Richboro, PA 18954. Interment will be private.

Joseph Donnelly

November 15th, 2013

Joseph F. Donnelly of Holland, PA died peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2013, at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne. He was 79.

He was the beloved husband of Anne M. Boyle Donnelly for 50 years.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late John L. and Sophia A. Mroz Donnelly and brother of the late John Donnelly and Veronica Barber.

Mr. Donnelly was a 1952 graduate of Northeast Catholic High School. He began his college education at LaSalle College, which was delayed by the call to serve our country in the U.S Army. After being honorably discharged, he returned to complete his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, graduating in 1965. He pursued his career in accounting, working for Janney Cylinder Company in Philadelphia for 35 years, and then retiring after 15 years of service from Tedeco Industrial Products in their Yeadon division. It was at Janney that Joe met his future wife, and they lived in Philadelphia before moving to Holland in 1979.

Joe was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. In his free time, Joe enjoyed golfing, fishing, and gardening. He was an avid sports enthusiast, and especially enjoyed the Philadelphia teams. Although he had many hobbies and interests, Joe’s priority was his family. He will be dearly missed.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his daughter, Megan E. Grady and her husband, John, of Philadelphia; his son, Brendan J. Donnelly and his wife, Erin, of Doylestown, PA; his two sisters, Theresa McNeely and Mary Lavanga, and his two brothers, Edward and Michael Slaven. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Isabelle, Ceara, Kevin, Clare, Patrick and Fiona.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Thursday, November 21, 2013, from 9:30 AM until his Funeral Mass 11:30 AM at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Road, Holland, PA 18966. Interment will take place at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.

Dorr (the late Virginia), Meg Szanajda (Jim) and the late Christopher M. and Stephen A. Dorr. She was the dear sister of 1 brother and 5 sisters and devoted grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

William M. Rodgers, Sr.

November 14th, 2013

William M. Rodgers, Sr. of Bensalem died peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on Thursday November 14, at Wood River Village.

He was 87.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved husband of 65 years to Carolyn (Marie) M. Slusman Rodgers. Son of the late John and Bertha Merrick Rodgers, Bill was the 10th of their 13 children. He was predeceased by six sisters, four brothers and his son-in-law, Anthony Amato.

Bill was a graduate of North Catholic High School, class of 1944 and joined the Navy a week after graduation. He was a proud Navy veteran serving on the USS Randolph Aircraft Carrier during World War II. During Bill’s tour of duty, his aircraft carrier delivered the marines who appear in the well known memorial to Iwo Jima. He and his fellow sailors were present in the Sea of Japan when the Japanese surrendered, ending World War II.

Bill lived most of his life in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philadelphia. He was a communicant for many years at Saint Matthew’s parish before moving to Holland where he enjoyed being a member of Saint Bede the Venerable parish. For the last four years Bill resided at Wood River Village in Bensalem.

Bill’s professional career spanned over 30 years as a Manager for Derr Flooring Company up to his retirement in 1991.

Bill loved the beach in the summer, taking care of his cars and took pride in his family. When they were small, Bill’s grandchildren greatly enjoyed “helping” Pop Pop with his household tasks.

He will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted family.

In addition to his beloved wife, Marie, Bill is survived by his two daughters, Carolyn Amato, Suzanne Rodgers and her husband Anthony Porrazza and his son, William M. Rodgers, Jr. and his wife Dorothy. He is also the dear brother of Francis and Edward Rodgers, the proud grandfather of 12, great grandfather of 10 and the favorite uncle of numerous nieces and nephews.

His family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Wood River Village Personal Care Unit for their loving care of “Uncle Bill” over the last three years. We also appreciate the support and medical care provided by the Parkinson’s Center at the VA Hospital, especially Heidi Watson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 10:00am until his Funeral Mass at 11:30am in Saint Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Road, Holland, Pennsylvania 18966. Sandra was the beloved wife of the late Gerard H. Jr. and devoted mother of Gerard H. III (Julie), Kimberly A., and Stephanie L. Caiazzo (Adrian). She was the dear sister of Ralph Young (Joyce), Arlene McBride (Bernard), and the late Linda Young and Barry Young. She was the loving grandmother of Nicole Schermerhorn (Christopher), Jerry IV, Connor, Brandon, Christian and great grandmother of Christopher Schermerhorn.

Joseph T. Rafferty, died peacefully on November 8, 2013.

Joe was the beloved husband of Frances M. (neeFerrero) Rafferty and loving father of Michele Quinn (Peter), Thomas Rafferty, Eleanor Roberto (Lou), and Aimee Bieker (Brendan). He is also survived by his sisters; Theresa Rafferty, Margie Woodington, Mary Stewart, and Rita Dougherty, and 10 grandchildren.

Mildred Shirley Bannon (Culp)

Mildred Shirley Bannon of Feasterville, PA died peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was 79.

She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Bannon Sr.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Mildred Ann McCann Culp.

Mrs. Bannon was a resident of Feasterville for the past 40 years. She graduated from Bensalem High School, Class of 1952. She was employed as a pharmacy assistant at Penndel Pharmacy for 20 years. She was a member of To Live Again chapter in Feasterville.

She loved all animals, having many throughout her life. A woman of many talents, she enjoyed painting and sketching and her beautiful voice was enjoyed by many on the radio and throughout her life. Shirley and her husband Ray were known for their wonderful dancing. Most of all she was the ultimate caregiver, caring for anyone who was in need. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and will be sadly missed as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.

She is survived by her four children, Raymond Bannon Jr. and his wife, Robin, of Langhorne, Robert Bruce Bannon and his wife, Kathleen, of Levittown, Colleen Bresnahan and her husband, Michael, of Langhorne, and Brian Bannon and his wife, Dorothy of Feasterville, her brother, Harry W. Culp Jr. of Fairless Hills and her sister, Linda Caldwell and her husband, David, of Levittown. She is also survived by her 8 loving grandchildren, Renee Rodriguez, Ryan Bannon, Kristina Bannon, Robi Bannon, Michelle Bresnahan, Brian Bannon Jr., Eric Bannon and Janet Pickering and her 6 great grandchildren.

Eleanor C. Mizerak (Carroll)

November 7th, 2013

Eleanor C. Mizerak of Warrington died peacefully on Thursday November 7, at Doylestown Hospital. She was 81.

Born in Philadelphia and living in Doylestown most of her life, she was the beloved wife of the late Edmund C. Mizerak and daughter of the late Martin P.and Eleanor (McGrath) Carroll.

Known to family and friends as Ellie, she was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. She spent her career working at PECO. For the past few years Ellie has been a resident of Neshaminy Manor, where she befriended many of the residents and was the President of the Resident Council. She was wonderfully cared for by the staff at the Manor, and her family would like to thank them all for the love and care they bestowed upon her. Ellie was well known as an animal lover.

Ellie is survived by her sister-in-law Marie Madden (Hugh) and her brother-in-law Raymond Kuhn(Esther) and a niece Patricia Devine. She was predeceased by her niece Cindy Cole, but is survived by Cindy’s husband, Dave, a niece Susan L. Springman (Kevin). Special to her were her 4 great nephews, Tim, Shawn and David Cole and Daniel Springman as well as a great niece Karoline Springman.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their condolences to her family on Wednesday November 13, from 10:00am until her Funeral Mass 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 E. State St., Doylestown, PA 18901.

Interment will follow in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, Ferry Rd. Doylestown.
