Paul Ronald Vass, Jr.

November 30th, 2013

Paul Ronald Vass, Jr., of Doylestown, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Doylestown Hospital. He was 83.

Born in Birmingham, AL, he was a son of the late Paul R. and Edwina Davis Vass. He spent most of his youth in Birmingham, AL and Waco, TX.

Paul served our country in the U.S. Air Force, and was honorably discharged in the early 1950’s. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in geology from Baylor University in Texas. After graduation, he moved to Philadelphia, and began a management position in retail with Woolworth. There he met his future wife, and they were soon married and began raising their family in Philadelphia. Paul continued to work in retail and furniture manufacturing until his retirement. He moved back to Waco, TX to be closer to his brother, Donald (Buddy) Vass, and then to Doylestown seven years ago to be closer to his children.

Paul enjoyed golf, and had recently joined a pool league at his local senior citizens center. He loved his black lab mix Reebok, and considered him part of the family. Paul was loved by his family and will be dearly missed.

Paul is survived by his children: Suzanne Vass and her husband Bruce Taylor of Doylestown, PA, Dianne Hanrahan and her husband Barney of Schaumberg, IL, Stephen Vass of Levittown, PA, Nancy Hildreth and her husband David of Bensalem, PA and Stephanie Vass of Springfield, IL; his grandchildren: Veronica, Jeffrey, Rachel, Matthew, Christopher, John Paul and Elise, his great grandson Carter; and his beloved dog, Reebok.

The family will observe a private end of life service.

Patricia M. Barrile (Grillone)

November 28th, 2013

Patricia M. Grillone Barrile of Ivyland died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her side on Thursday, November 28th at her residence. She was 61.

She was the beloved wife of 10 years to Nicholas S. Barrile.

Born in Philadelphia, PA Patricia was the loving daughter of Rosalie S. Sammaritano Grillone and the Late Anthony A. Grillone.

Patricia has worked with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office as an Administrator and she also served in various other positions and departments within the City of Philadelphia for over 36 Years. She was an active parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord Church and has always held a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. In addition to her love for the Church and the Blessed Mother, Patricia enjoyed spending time with friends and family and also time at the Shore. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she has touched.

Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Holy Redeemer Oncology Department, the Hospital, and to those from the hospice who have helped them through the most difficult of days.

In addition to her husband Nicholas and her mother Rosalie, Patricia is survived by her sister Sandra M. Panuccio and her husband Joseph V. of Ivyland and many other family members.

Patricia M. Dickson (Savage)

November 27th, 2013

Patricia M. (nee Savage) Dickson, of Brooksville, FL. (formerly of Newtown), died on November 27, 2013.

Patricia was the beloved wife of the late James E., and dearest mother of James M. Dickson and Francine Goldberg (late Howard) and the late Rachelle and Richard Dickson. She was predeceased by her sister Jane McPhillips; she is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Douglas and Allison Goldberg.

Patricia’s family will receive condolences on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until her Funeral Mass 1:00pm in the Olde Church of St. Andrew, 135 Sycamore St., Newtown.

Interment Sunset Memorial Park, Somerton.

Catherine F. Dias (Costello)

November 26th, 2013

Catherine F. Dias of Langhorne died Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown. She was 74.

Catherine was the beloved wife of 50 years to Manuel T. Dias and the loving mother of Kathleen M. Vaughan and her husband Adrian of Kensington, MD and Patrice A. Dias of Doylestown. She was the cherished grandmother of Brendan, Olivia and Julia Vaughan.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Catherine Regan Costello. She was a graduate of Little Flower High School and Bucks County Community College.

Catherine was a former resident of Churchville before moving to Langhorne in 2000. In her retirement, Catherine and her husband traveled extensively through Europe and enjoyed taking cruises together. Catherine was extremely devoted to her Catholic Faith.

In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by her sister Patricia Gilligan and her husband Thomas of Barnegat, NJ, two nieces, maternal aunt Delia Harrington and many loving cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing from 10:00am until her Funeral Mass 11:00am on Tuesday, December 3rd in the Church of St. Andrew, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Conshohocken.

Carl F. Ranno

November 25th, 2013

Carl F. Ranno, of Chalfont, PA died on Monday, November 25, 2013, at his home with his children by his side. He was 85.

He was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn Pedevill Ranno.

Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Biagio and Rose Cagnini Ranno.

Carl grew up in New York, and worked in the family business. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and received the Bronze Star for his acts of merit.

He is survived by his children Gary Ranno of Laconia NH, Denise Spence and her husband James of Chalfont and Sharon Pliego and her husband Todd of Jamison, and his brother Edward Ranno of North Carolina. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren; Noelle, Carmella and Gigi.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday, November 29, 2013 from 9:30 - 11:30 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd) New Britain, PA 18901 and to his Funeral Mass 12:00 pm at St. Jude Church, Chalfont.

Linda M. Jerome (Rizzo)

November 25th, 2013

Linda M. Rizzo Jerome of Sellersville, PA died suddenly on Monday, November 25, 2013, at her residence. She was 70.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. Sr. and Pearl Richart Rizzo and sister of the late Frank J. Rizzo Jr.

Linda was a resident of Sellersville, for the past 9 years. She was a former resident of the Somerton section of Philadelphia. Linda was a1961 graduate of Abington High School and Bloomsburg University in1965 with her Bachelor’s degree in Education.

Linda worked for Edgcomb Metals of Bensalem, for many years before her retirement in 2004. Linda enjoyed being with her family, she was a avid reader and especially enjoyed playing bridge, she was creative at crocheting, needlepoint and embroidering. She will be sadly missed by her beloved and devoted family.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer M. Tuozzo and her husband, Michael, of Hatfield, her brother John Rizzo of Marshall, MO, her sister-in-law, Carmella Rizzo of Sellersville, and her 2 grandchildren, Maria & Anthony Tuozzo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Friday, November 29, 2013, from 9:00 AM until her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Rt. 152 & Broad Street, Hilltown, PA 18927.

Robert Grasso

November 24th, 2013

Robert “Bob” Grasso, a 35 year resident of Richboro, died suddenly on Sunday evening November 24, at his home. He was 65.

Born in Abington, Bob was the beloved husband of Tatyana (nee Nikolaevna) for the past 6 years.

He was the devoted son of the late Edward and Louise Finelli Grasso and brother of the late Larry Grasso.

Bob was a graduate of Upper Dublin High School. Bob’s mechanical creativity was appreciated by those in the race car profession, he was the former owner of Dunn and Grasso Performance located in Bristol, where he was know to be the “King of Speed and High Performance” for over 30 years until 1993.
Bob was most comfortable on the drag strip, tuning up for a big race or building performance engines, with his family looking on. In his spare time Bob enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren at Penn Warner Club. He was always paying it forward someone in need. He will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted family.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his 3 devoted children Mark Grasso and his wife Cheryl, Michelle Grasso and Matt Grasso, he is survived by his 3 brothers and their wives Edward Grasso (Mary Lou), Michael Grasso and his wife Judy, Joseph Grasso and Eileen Chelsa, his 2 sisters and their husbands, Catherine Messina and here husband Al, Rita Loughery and her husband Jeff. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and Joyce Grasso the mother of his children.

Joan M. Metzger (Brooks)

Joan M. Brooks Metzger of Holland died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 24th at Chandler Hall in Newtown. She was 64.

She was the beloved wife of 43 years to Robert E. Metzger and loving daughter of the late Joseph B. and Teresa M. Brooks.

Mrs. Metzger has enriched the minds and touched the lives of many students that have had the opportunity to be a part of her class at St. Jerome’s Catholic School in Philadelphia and then for 20 years at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Penndel. She also held a special devotion and love to her close friends and family. Joan will be greatly missed by everyone who has come to know and love her and have had the opportunity to call her wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend.
In addition to her husband Robert, Joan is survived by her loving son Thomas J. Metzger, his wife Chrissy and grandson Matthew of Sellersville, PA, her sister Barbara B. Keough and her husband Edward.

Michele Johnson (Beecher)

November 23rd, 2013

Michele M. Beecher Johnson of Newtown died suddenly on Friday, November 22, 2013 at her residence. She was 45.

She was the beloved wife of 15 years to Robert E. Johnson Jr. and the loving mother of Ashton R. Johnson.

Born in Abington, PA Michele was the loving daughter of Henry W. Sr. and Veronica Charlton Beecher.

Michele has been an active member and a devoted volunteer for CCD at the Church of St. Andrew. She graduated from Council Rock High School in 1986 and went on to earn her Associates degree in Health and Physical Education in 1989 at Bucks County Community College. She worked for many years as a nanny to 4 children whom she was proud to have helped raise into the young adults that they are now. She was an avid basketball and softball player throughout her high school and college and also in various leagues throughout the years. She enjoyed walking and has most recently completed her second Susan G. Komen 3 day Walk for a Cure. Among her many accolades and accomplishments there were none greater than the love she shared for her son and husband. Michele will be dearly missed by everyone who has come to know and love her throughout her life.

In addition to her husband and son Robert and Ashton, and her parents Henry and Veronica, Michele is survived by her brother and sister Henry W. Beecher Jr. and his wife Deeneen, and Christine Wiest and her husband Joseph, her mother and father-in-law Robert E., Sr. and Mary Lee Johnson, her sister-in-law Colleen Kerrigan and her husband Steven, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
