Michael Stanley Ambrose 61,  passed away peacefully at Jefferson Memorial Hospital on Monday October 22, 2018. He was born on February 13, 1957 in Philadelphia, PA to the parents of Janet Wilson and the late Stanley Ambrose. He graduated from Northeast High School. He was married to Mary Braun for 21 Years.  He was the beloved father of Christina, Michael and Joseph Ambrose.  He is the brother of Donald Ambrose, Janice Haddock, Steve Wilson and the late Robert Ambrose. He is the step son of the late Al Wilson. Michael will be missed by many for his sense of humor and infectious laugh.

Alan V. Slawter II, affectionately known to some as “A.J.” and others as “Al”, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 at his home in Jamison. He was 39.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the devoted and loving son of Alan V. and Rhona L. Suter Slawter.

Alan graduated from George Washington Carver High School for Engineering and Science in Philadelphia. The perfect marriage of his loves for fixing things and cars led him to the first part of his career as an auto mechanic. However, it wouldn’t be long until he found his way to a job with SEPTA where he worked on the company’s buses for the last 13 years.

Alan had a passion for history, something he shared with his father. He was a quick study and would research anything and everything to learn as much about it as possible, which often led to discussions of his findings with his dad. Additionally he enjoyed collecting all sorts of old and antique items, having built a collection which was admired by many. He could fix anything and was often the go-to person when in need of a repair. Alan would stop at nothing to help someone who needed it.

What will be most treasured by all those who knew and loved him was his sweet disposition, dry sense of humor, quick wit, and his legendary hugs. He was devoted to his family and friends and words simply cannot express how much he’ll be missed.

In addition to his parents, Alan is survived by his children, Morgan Taylor Ferguson and George Preston Slawter. His pride and love of being their dad was without measure. He also leaves behind his brother Andrew Slawter and his wife Melissa. Alan took on the role of being a big brother with steadfast devotion and love and in Andrew’s eyes was his hero, his friend, and his heart. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews; Joseph, Chase, Savannah and his beloved God Son, Andrew Slawter Jr., who beamed with admiration for him; and he also leaves behind countless extended family and friends.

John G. “Jack” Nangle, Sr. formerly of Philadelphia died peacefully on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Neshaminy Manor surrounded by his seven loving children.  He was 83.

Born in Philadelphia, Jack was the beloved husband of the late Agnes Madden Nangle and the loving son of the late Michael and Mary Carr Nangle.

Jack was a proud Army veteran, serving with the 501st Infantry Regiment in Alaska.  Jack served for 30 years as a Phila Firefighter, retiring as a LT with Ladder 15.  Following retirement from the PFD, Jack was a Fire Marshall at the Naval Depot in Lawndale, affording him the opportunity to work with his dear wife Agnes.  Jack and Agnes shared many pleasant nights out at Ruhlings during this period. 

Jack took great pleasure in vacationing with his family each summer in Wildwood, NJ.  He relished his role as Grandfather, always helping out with babysitting chores for his 21 Grandchildren.  Jack was a lifelong Phila sports fan, often regaling us with stories of the Whiz Kids and 1960 Eagles.

Jack is survived by his loving and devoted children: John G. Nangle, Jr. and his wife Kathryn of Glen Burnie, Joseph P. Nangle and his wife Barbara of Southampton, Mary Ellen Jayne and her husband Mark of Newtown, Kathleen Boccella and her husband Giovanni of West Conshohocken,   A. Diane Van Houten and her husband Joseph of Doylestown, Michael A. Nangle and his wife Marian of Warrington, and Patricia Mann and her husband Randy of Warminster.  He is also survived by his dear grandchildren John, Kelly, Dennis, Robert, Jessica, Victoria, Sean, Brian, Stephen, Nicholas, Joseph, Maria, John, Patrick, Mark, Matthew, Courtney, Michael, Margaret, Mary, and Lucas and his great grandchildren: McKenzie, Carson, Kieran, Clara, Greyson, and Jameson.

Lawrence Provost Chapman, of Chalfont, PA, died at home on Thursday, October 18, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was 75 years old.

Born in Darby, PA, he had been a long-time resident of Bucks County, PA. He was the beloved husband of the late Maureen H. McMurdo-Chapman and son of the late William and Nellie Provost Chapman.

Lawrence will be remembered as a hardworking man who loved his family immensely. As a deli owner, he was a fixture in the community and always treated his employees well. He had the perfect job for someone who loved to meet and talk to people.

Lawrence will be missed greatly by his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael L and Suzanne Chapman, James W. Chapman and Stephen P. and Ann Marie Chapman. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lily, MacKenzie, Jacob, Finn and Maxxwell; and his sister Phyllis.

Florence J. Mainart of Holland died Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at St. Mary Medical Center in Holland. She was 91.

Florence was the beloved wife to the late Leonard C. Mainart, Jr.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Jonas and Caroline Kasmaitis Caplonies and the sister of the late Helen Schivito.

Florence was a former resident of the Rhawnhurst section of Philadelphia before moving to Holland in 2010. In her early years, she had worked in the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard assisting in building ships during World War II. She eventually worked with Bell Telephone as an operator and later in life as a cashier with Shop Rite in Philadelphia. Florence enjoyed exercising and was an avid walker and was a member of the Social Club at the Resurrection of Our Lord Church in Philadelphia. She will be deeply missed as a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and friend to all.

Florence is survived by her two sons, Leonard C. Mainart III and his wife Joanne of Holland and Stephen J. Mainart and his wife Florence of Mullica Hill, NJ. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Walter E. Konschak of Southampton died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. He was 75.

Born in Philadelphia, Walter was a resident of Southampton for the past 27 years.

Walter was the beloved husband to Suzanne P. Anderson Konschak for the past 28 years, the son of the late Richard and Agnes Hinger Konschak and brother of the late Robert Konschak.

Walter was a graduate of Bensalem High School, class of 1960. He worked as a meat cutter and Meat Manager for Holiday-Thriftway Markets for over 46 years. Walter had a lot of hobbies; he enjoyed working around his home, gardening and growing tomatoes in his garden. He was an accomplished woodworker and looked forward to going to Antique Car Shows. He was a long-time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Southampton. Walter will be remembered for his gracious smile and warm and caring ways.

In addition to his beloved wife Suzanne, Walter is survived by his children and their spouses; Kimberly Buch and her husband H L Buch, Connie Krepich and her husband Mike, Kristine Williams and her husband John, Carole Anne Baisden and her husband Frank, and Patricia Konschak. Walter is also survived by his sister Evelyn Pagliacetti and her husband Michael, his sister-in-law Eileen Konschak and his 10 cherished grandchildren.

Dr. David H. Loughran, Sr. of Richboro died of bladder cancer on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne.  He was 66.

Born in Philadelphia, Dr. Loughran was the son of the late John Loughran, Sr. and Alma Hatfield Loughran.

Dr. Loughran graduated from St. Joseph’s University, and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He completed his fellowship in Infectious Disease at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey.  Dr. Loughran was respected  by his colleagues for his specialized work and for his contributions towards S.T.D. prevention while employed with the Centers for Disease Control. He devoted countless hours studying HIV/AIDS and examining treatment options for persons afflicted with the disease.  Some of his early work during the frantic period of the 1980’s AIDS epidemic helped to develop some of the most effective treatments that are being utilized currently. 

Dr. Loughran has been a longtime professor and also the Chair and Course Director of Infectious Disease in the Infectious Disease Division of the Department of Internal Medicine at PCOM.  He also served as the Director of Continuing Education at Neumann Medical Center.  Dr. Loughran’s infectious disease practice in Doylestown has been well respected by members and institutions in the field of medicine, and appreciated by his patients, some of whom had been coming to him for health care for nearly three decades.  Many of Dr. Loughran’s long-time patients credited him for saving their lives and went on to develop lasting friendships with him.  Among his professional peers he was always willing to be called upon for a consult and whenever an answer or help was needed.

Dr. Loughran was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast who enjoyed the solace of riding his Harley throughout the twists and turns of Bucks County and surrounding areas.  He enjoyed coaching his son’s ice hockey teams, time spent with family and close friends at the shore, learning how to snowboard and play ice hockey at age 50, the many snowboarding trips he took with his children, and the times he spent with his companion, Sharon Ethier.  He will be greatly missed by all, but his contributions to the study and treatment of infectious disease and the love he shared for his children will endure forever and be remembered by many.

Dr. Loughran is survived by his four loving children David H. Loughran, Jr. and his fiancée Justine Porretti of Perkasie, Megan and John “Tommy” Loughran of Richboro, and Michael Loughran of Ambler.  He is also survived by his brother John Loughran, Jr. and his longtime companion Kim Phillips.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 23, 2018 from 5:00 PM until his Funeral Service at 6:00 PM in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd.  (at Holland Rd.) Richboro, PA 18954.  Interment will be private.

Annunziata Schiano Lo Moriello Scotto Di Cesare, of Langhorne died peacefully on Monday, October 15, 2018, at her home. She was 81.

Born in Naples, Italy, Annunziata was the beloved wife of the late Aniello Scotto Di Cesare for 56 years who died on June 18, 2013 in Italy. She was the devoted daughter of the late Pasquale Schiano Lo Moriello and Anna Erbulli.

Annunziata is survived by her dear children and their spouses Biagio Scotto Di Cesare and his wife Mirella, Antonio Scotto Di Cesare, Concetta Bavarella and her husband Gennaro, Anna Palino and her husband Pasquale, Sabrina Scotto Di Cesare and Gennaro. She is also survived by her 4 brothers and her 7 sister. Annuziata is the devoted Nonna of 14 and also survived by 2 great grandchildren.

Annunziata’s family will receive condolences on Thursday October 18, 2018 at St. Andrew Catholic Church 81 Swamp Rd. Newtown, PA 18940  from 12:30 pm until her Funeral Mass 3:00pm.

Her interment will be private.

Walter Nicholas Smerconish, of Doylestown, PA died on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Doylestown Hospital. He was 88.

He was originally from the company coal town of Audenreid, Pennsylvania, the son of a mine foreman, Wasil, and Mildred Walker Smerconish.

Walt was a 1947 Graduate of West Hazleton High School.  He then went on to receive a Bachelor’s of Science from Bloomsburg State Teachers College and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  Soon after returning home he moved to Doylestown with his then wife, Florence Smerconish Cohn, and worked as an Educator in the Central Bucks School District from 1959 to 1993, first as a teacher of social studies, and then as a guidance counselor.  During this time, he completed his own education by receiving his M.Ed. in Counseling in 1967 from Lehigh University.

Walt’s passions were fly fishing and football.  (He’d be disappointed to know if his favorite fishing spot in the Poconos were revealed with any specificity.)  For twenty-five years, he was a football referee at the junior high, high school and college level.  He routinely officiated in the Bux-Mont, Suburban One, Philadelphia Catholic and Ivy Leagues.  Once, he officiated a scrimmage between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins at Albright College in Reading.  One protégé of Walt was Scott Green who became an NFL referee and officiated three Super Bowls. In the Mike Pettine era of Central Bucks West football, Walt was proud to serve for twenty years as the team’s field announcer for home games at War Memorial Field. 

Walt loved and was deeply rooted in the Doylestown community. He served as Director of the Jaycees, was President of the Doylestown Youth Recreation Council, served on the Board of the Central Bucks YMCA, organized the Youth Committee for the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, ran the adult education program at the Bucks County Prison, and was a Trustee of the Bucks County Community College, among many responsibilities.  He formerly belonged to both the Rotary Club and Union Horse Company.  In 2010 he was inducted into the Central Bucks-Central Bucks West Hall of Fame as a Community Service Leader.

He is survived by his two sons, Walter S. Smerconish of Haverford, and Michael A. Smerconish and his wife Lavinia of Villanova, as well as his sister, Anna Hauze, of West Hazleton, PA. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren.

Joseph D. Mancuso, 69 of New Hope, PA and formerly of Newtown, PA until August of this year, died on Thursday, October 11, 2018.

Joe was the loving husband of Jean Milillo Mancuso. 

Born in Trenton, NJ he was the son of the late George and Frances Miola Mancuso. 

Joe was a graduate of Wright State University, Dayton, OH.  His professional Life was spent in various aspects of the Real Estate Industry. 

In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his sons, Marc (Daniela Schuch) of Austin, TX and Mike (Jessica) of Philadelphia; his brothers, Tom (Nancy) of Oro Valley, AZ, Guy (Nancy) of Cave Creek, AZ and their families.
