Anthony D. Anella

October 6th, 2014

Anthony D. Anella, of Langhorne, died peacefully on Monday October 6, 2014, at Jefferson Neurosciences Hospital, with his family at his side. He was 84.

Born in Hazleton, he was the beloved husband of 60 years to Mildred Latella Anella. He was the son of the late Thomas and Mildred Stish Anella, dearest father of the late Jane Anella-Smith and brother of the late Mildred Truitt.

Tony as he was known to his friends was a graduate of Hazleton High class of 1948, during his high school years; he was a jazz musician and band member. Tony graduated from Penn State University in 1952 with a Degree in Economics. His professional career spanned 36 years, beginning in 1953 working for the Social Security Administration, starting as a Claims Representative Trainee, his communication skills and personality enabled Tony to advance through various supervisory and management positions.

Eventually, he became the Area Director for Social Security in the state of Virginia and in subsequent years the additional states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, DC and West Virginia. During this period, he received many awards. In 1973 he was selected into the Social Security Fellows Program where he served in numerous positions in SSA Central Office in Baltimore. His extensive experience enabled him to participate in a number of Special Details including writing operational procedures for the Black Lung Program in the Disability Division, Medicare procedures in the Medicare Division and technical procedures for Field Offices.

He personally wrote almost 40% of the manual used by the agency to Process all Claims and spent many months training field staff. After serving in the Baltimore office, he returned to his Area Director position in Pennsylvania. In 1986 he was appointed as the Assistant Regional Commissioner in charge of the field operation in the Philadelphia Region where he remained until his retirement in 1989.

In 1990, he became the Executive Director for the Bucks County Association for Retirement and Senior Citizens where he supervised five Senior Activity Centers until his ‘second’ retirement in 2013. He was a member of Bristol and Shady Brook Rotary, the Elks of Hazelton and the Knights of Columbus.

Tony enjoyed traveling, with road trips being his favorite. His seven children have fondest memories of him piling them all in the family station wagon and traveling across the country stopping at every interesting attraction on the way and back. Since that time he and his wife have traveled extensively. He also enjoyed; golfing, fishing, dancing and parties - especially the infamous Sunday night dinners with the family.

In addition to his beloved wife, He is survived by his devoted children and their spouses; Anthony and Debbie Anella, Judi and Joe Konrad, Tom and Kathy Anella, Sheri and Tom Rogge, Mary Frances and Mike Augustin, David and Regina Anella, he is the proud grandfather of 10, Christine, Arielle , Ryan , Addison, Elisabeth, Thomas, Stephen, Hailey, Jacqueline and Michael. He is also survived by his 2 sisters; Betty Jane Anella and Edith Moore.

Tony’s family will receive condolences on Sunday evening October 12, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and on Monday morning from 8:30 am to 9:15 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro and to his Funeral Mass 10:00 am at the Church of St. Andrew, 81 Swamp Rd. Newtown. Interment will be private.

Edna T. Pierson (Toland)

October 5th, 2014

Edna T. Pierson of Chocowinity, North Carolina died Sunday October 5, 2014 at The Carolina House in Greenville, North Carolina. She was 90.

Edna was the beloved wife of the late Harry J. Pierson.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Leticia McKenna Toland, mother of the late Joseph F. Pierson and sister of the late Joseph Toland.

Edna was a former resident of Southampton before moving to North Carolina in 2011. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Southampton. Edna worked for Davisville Inc. in Warminster for many years. She enjoyed quality times spent with her family and will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Edna is survived by her two daughters, Patricia D. and Gerald Potocnak of Sarver, PA and Regina A. and Michael F. Lee of Chocowinity, NC. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Saturday, October 11th from 9:00am until her Funeral Mass 10:00am in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Second Street Pike and Knowles Avenue, Southampton, PA 18966.

Interment will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne.

Marie A. Miller (Teti)

October 5th, 2014

Marie A. Miller of Perkasie, PA died peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, October 5, 2014. She was 80.

She was the beloved wife of Leon M. Miller for 54 years.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Louise Raimo Teti.

“Rie” was a resident of Perkasie for the past 48 years. She was formerly the Director of Communications for the Pearl S. Buck Foundation and was a dedicated activist for the children it served, and also volunteered her time and talents there for many years. She was a wonderful mother and doting grandmother and repeatedly claimed her greatest accomplishment was her children. Rie loved cooking and entertaining and was interested in holistic medicine. She will be sadly missed as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her loyal husband, she is survived by her five children, Cynthia A. Miller and her husband, Charles King, of Denver, CO, Wendy A. Thomas of Sparta, NJ, Stephanie A. Miller of New York, NY, Gary L. Miller and his wife, Sarah, of Philadelphia, PA and Jeffrey L. Miller and his wife, Eileen, of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her 7 loving grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 19, 1 PM to 4 PM at Peace-Tohickon Lutheran Church, 100 Old Bethlehem Road, Perkasie, PA 18944.

Maureen Teresa Hughes

Maureen Teresa Hughes, age 56, of Upper St. Clair, PA, formerly of Philadelphia, died Sunday October 5, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was the beloved wife for 24 years to Edward J. Hughes; loving mother of Emily V. Hughes; devoted daughter of Rose T. and the late James F. Gallagher; cherished sister of Laurie Luff (Larry), James Gallagher (Miho), and Rosemary Boyle (David); daughter-in-law of Avery E. Hughes; sister-in-law of Donna Pili (John); also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Edward J. Kenney

Edward J. Kenney, of Northeast Philadelphia, died on October 5, 2014.

He was a proud US Army veteran and former owner of “ Kenney’s Corner Store”.

Edward was the son of the late Thomas and Helen Collins Kenney, beloved brother of the late Mary Raab, Thomas, James and William Kenney and dearest uncle of Frank and John Raab and Kathleen Fitzgerald. He is also survived by 8 great nieces and nephews and 15 great great nieces and nephews.

Constance M. Schurer (Weikel)

Constance M. Weikel Schurer of Holland died peacefully on Saturday October 4, 2014 with her daughter and son by her side. She was 76.

Born in Pottstown, she was the beloved wife of the late Ernest F. Schurer and daughter of the late George and Florence Traub Weikel Ratzell.

Connie was a resident of Holland for over 42 years. She was a graduate of Olney High School, class of 1956. She worked for many years as a Mortgage Processor for Trevose Federal Savings and Loan Association. Family was first and foremost in Connie’s life her children and especially her grandchildren put a sparkle in her eyes, she loved her country and was very patrotic. Her home was always pristine and with open arms she welcomed family and friends. She had a love for animals of all kinds and looked forward to traveling with family and friends.

A woman of many talents, her writing skills where to be admired, she loved to put pen to paper, whether writing poems or to family, friends and even occasionally to the newspaper. Connie was a member of Gloria Dei Church, Huntingdon Valley and sang in the choir. She will be sadly missed and loved dearly by her family and friends.

She is survived by her devoted daughter and son, Dawn E. Czop and her husband Joseph J. Jr. and Geoffrey E. Schurer and his wife Jennifer. 4 dear grandchildren; Katelyn M. Evans ( Robert), Geoffrey E. Schurer, Jr., April M. Cooper (Philip ) and Joseph J. Czop III, (Michelle) and 5 wonderful great grandchildren.

Andrew J. Reilly

October 4th, 2014

Andrew J. Reilly of Southampton died peacefully on Saturday October 4, 2014 at his home with his devoted family at his side. He was 73.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved husband of 50 years to Anne V. Diskin Reilly, and son of the late Charles and Marie Daly Reilly.

Andy was a graduate of Father Judge High School, class of 1958. He was the owner and founder of ARCO Painting and Decorating in 1975 which he operated until his retirement in 2009. He was resident of Southampton for the past 40 years. Andy enjoyed traveling, watching college basketball and many of the Philadelphia sports teams. He was a long time member of Spring Mill Golf Club where he enjoyed many exciting rounds of golf with his buddies.

Andy will be most remembered for his out going personality, good natured humor, quick wit and lively smile. He will be sadly missed by his family, especially his devoted grandchildren.

In addition to his beloved wife, Anne, he is survived by his son Kevin Reilly and his wife Lisa, and his daughter, Colleen McGhee, his brothers, William Reilly (late Maureen), Eugene Reilly (Eileen), late Charles Reilly (Maureen), his 2 sisters Marie Lemly (late Harry), Cathy Bury (John). He is also survived by his 7 devoted grandchildren; Patrick, Jake and Brynn Ann Reilly and Erin, Morgan, Paige and Michael McGhee.

Andy’s family will receive condolences on Friday October 10, 2014 from 9:45 am until Words of Remembrance 10:45 am followed by his Funeral Mass 11:00am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 2nd Street Pike and Knowles Ave. Southampton. Interment will be private.

Emma Sorrentino (Carl)

Emma “Lynne” Sorrentino of Newtown died Friday, October 3, 2014 at St. Mary Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was 90.

Emma was the beloved wife of the late Romeo J. Sorrentino.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Stella Tapp Carl, the sister of the late George Carl and Naomi Calhoon, grandmother of the late Brian Hennessy Jr. and mother-in-law of the late Rose Hennessy.

Emma was a former resident of Holland before moving to Newtown over 25 years ago. She was a communicant of the Church of St. Andrew in Newtown. In her leisure, she enjoyed traveling the United States, Europe and Canada and attending the theater and casinos. Emma lived for her husband and family and will be deeply missed by everyone who came to know her.

Emma is survived by her children and their spouses; Joseph Neal and Lynn Hennessy of Quakertown, Brian Carl Hennessy of Elkton, MD and Linda and Jerry Alampi of Richboro. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Joan Fox (Schneider)

Joan Katherine (Schneider) Fox of Newtown died Friday October 3, 2014 at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 76.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Joan was the daughter of Joseph and Irma (Stasz) Schneider.

Joan was a lifelong resident of Bucks County. She was a graduate of Jamestown, PA High School and East Stroudsburg University, and taught in the Neshaminy School District. Joan enjoyed equestrian activities, gardening, knitting and nature as well as spending time with her grandson. She had a deep devotion for animals and donated too many local pet shelters. Joan will be truly missed by her family, companion dog Josie and all who had the pleasure to know her.

Joan is survived by her daughters; Mary Ann Fox of Newtown and Cathy Jo Sitko and husband Gary of North Wales. She is also survived by her sister, Rita (Schneider) Ryburn and husband Joseph of Mercer, PA, grandson Gary Sitko, Jr., father of her children Eugene R. Fox and nephews.

James Stampone

James D. Stampone of Newtown, Pennsylvania died Friday October 3, 2014 at Chandler Hall Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was 93 years old.

James was the beloved husband of the late Roselind Aspromonte Stampone and the late Helen Weime Stampone.

Born in East Paterson, New Jersey the son of the late Rosario J. and Regina Marino Stampone.

He was a former resident of Wyckoff, New Jersey retired to Boynton Beach, Florida before moving to Newtown, Pennsylvania in 2012. James, a loving husband, caring father, and faithful friend loved spending his leisure time on the golf course.

He is survived by his children and their spouses; Joyce DeMartine of Nokomis, Florida James Stampone, Jr. and his wife Katharine Le Royer of Pownal, Maine, Sandra Burdulis and her husband Robert of Newtown, Pennsylvania, Donna Stampone and her husband George Colello of Sudbury, Massachusetts. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
