November 22nd, 2014
Frank L. Lumpkin of Langhorne died suddenly on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at his residence. He was 81.
Frank was the beloved husband of 60 years to Catherine “Katie” Lumpkin.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Newportville, he was the son of the late John R. and Elmira Lumpkin.
He attended Bristol Township High school where he played football on the 1949 JV football team and participated in track and field. In 1950 Frank enlisted into the Army and was stationed in Germany with the 24th Constabulary Squadron – Border Legion through 1953.
After his service in the Army, Frank met and married his beautiful wife and best friend, Katie. Frank was employed by Nesbitts of Philadelphia for 25 years after which he started his window cleaning and janitorial business that he operated for the past 40 years.
Frank was an avid sports enthusiast. From 1954 to 1955 he played in the Greater Kensington Baseball League for the Royals AA. For the next three decades he played fast-pitch softball with Tullytown Tavern, Marek’s Café, Christian 9 and Big Jim’s of the Penndel Softball League. In 1960 Frank led Marek’s Café to victory in the A.S.A State Championship. In his final season at age 53 he batted 301 and was selected to the ALL Star team.
After his fast-pitch softball days, he became a PIAA official and officiated High School basketball, football and girls fast-pitch softball culminating in being selected as the back judge for the 1990 PIAA AAAA state football championship game. He continued as a PIAA official through November 2014.
Frank greeted everyone he met with a smile, a hug and a pat on the back. One of his greatest joys was the annual “Lumpkin Vacation” at the Jersey shore in Sea Isle City surrounded by all his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife Katie, Frank is survived by his eight loving children and their spouses; Frank L., Jr. and Melissa of Helena, AL, Gregory M. and Helen of Newtown, Brian J. and Cindy of Houston, TX, Gary J. and Gerri of Newtown, Cathi A. Smith and Scott of Buckingham, Dennis N. and Angie of Vineland, NJ, Patti A. Wachtman and Eric of Buckingham, and Timothy M. and Melissa of Royersford. He is also survived by his sister Betty Smith, and was the loving “Pops” to his 24 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Interment will follow with Military Honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.

Helen Stroud Hamilton, former faculty member of the Philadelphia Museum School of Art and renowned illustrator of the Happy Hollister books, a thirty-two title series, died Saturday in Southampton, PA, at age 94. Her art was exhibited at the Philadelphia Art Alliance, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Carnegie Institute, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Library of Congress, where it is represented in the permanent collection. Born in 1921 to Ethel Finlay Stroud, she grew up in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a girl, she traveled widely in Europe and North America. Helen graduated from Germantown Friends School and Wellesley College, where she won the prestigious hoop race in her senior year.
After college, she taught color and design classes at the Philadelphia Museum School of Art (now called the University of the Arts). While teaching, she met William Henry Hamilton, her student, an artist and future library activist. They married in 1950. Soon after, she was selected to illustrate a new children’s book series being produced by the Stratemeyer Syndicate, publishers of Nancy Drew, The Bobbsey Twins and The Hardy Boys. The first Happy Hollister book appeared in 1953. Her work was also published by Prentice-Hall, Doubleday, Lippincott, Charles Merrill, and others. She and her husband worked on projects together in their Conshohocken home and while raising a family, became involved in community issues. Together with a small group of progressive neighbors, they published and distributed a newsletter called ‘The Alert” to inform residents about local political matters. Through their activism, they were able to establish the first public library in Whitemarsh Township, The William Jeanes Memorial Library.
When the couple moved to Stuart, Florida, Helen continued her design work and community involvement. After returning to Pennsylvania in 2000, they settled at Twining Village in Southampton. Helen survived her husband by 12 years, teaching and creating vibrant tapestries.
She is survived by her four children, Faith H. Gowan of Boulder, CO, Kate S. Hamilton of New Paltz, NY, Andrew S. Hamilton of Doylestown, PA, and Liz H. Appelson of Mt. Tremper, NY, and eight grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made in the name of Helen Stroud Hamilton to Fleisher Art Memorial.

Mary Theresa McGinnis, of Newtown, PA died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 21st at Chandler Hall. She was 84.
She was the beloved wife of the late Charles W. McGinnis and the mother of the late Christopher McGinnis.
Born in Philadelphia, PA Mary Theresa was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret O’Neill McNally.
Mary Theresa worked for many years with Jennings Sigmond Law Firm in Philadelphia. She was an avid reader of fine literature and and loving and caring mother, grandmother, and friend. Mary Theresa will be sorely missed by everyone who has had the opportunity to know and love her.
Mary Theresa is survived by her loving and devoted children; Charles McGinnis of Philadelphia, Mary Cardona and her husband Joseph of Lower Gwynedd, Jacquelyn Alvira and her husband George of Holland, and Kathleen McGinnis of Newtown. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren

Mary "Molly" A. Horniak, of Doylestown, PA died peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at her home with her family by her side. She was 76.
She was the beloved wife of Stephen Horniak for 53 years.
She was born on September 13th, 1938 to the late John and Eleanore (Cassidy) Hendrick.
Molly grew up in Germantown and environs and graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy. She met her future husband at Stagecrafters Theater in Chestnut Hill. After they married in 1961, they started their family and their small business. Both the family and business grew and Deltronic Labs continues today in Chalfont and remains a family business. Molly was a vital part of the business for many years lending her significant talents to marketing and sales. Her interest and prowess at the NY Times crossword is legendary. Birding became a passion for her when she began regular vacations on Long Beach Island and Florida.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children Jessica Sklar of Wyndmoor, Stephen (Cathy) Horniak of North Wales, and Colin (Megan) Horniak of Warrington, her two sisters Jane Seidel of Vancouver, WA, and Pete Merriam of Nipomo, CA. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren: Alex, Cassidy, Emily, Aydan and Chase.
Her family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, November 24, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 from 10:00 am until her Funeral Service, 11:00am at the Joseph A. Rose T. Gallagher of Doylestown died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown surrounded by her loving family.
Rose was the beloved wife of the late James F. Gallagher.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary A. Breslin Turner, sister of the late Valentine Turner and mother of the late Maureen Hughes.
Rose was a former resident of Holland before moving to Doylestown. She was proud to have received her Associates Degree from Bucks County Community College in 1986 while simultaneously working as the Secretary for the Dean of Bucks County Community College. Rose was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Doylestown and was a former communicant of St. Bede the Venerable Church in Holland. In her leisure, she enjoyed vacationing with her family at the shore and enjoying lunches with her many close friends.
Rose is survived by her children Laurie A. Luff and her husband, Larry, of Newtown, James F. Gallagher and his wife, Miho, of Princeton Junction, NJ, and Rosemary Boyle and her husband, David, of Horsham. She was the mother-in-law of Edward Hughes of Pittsburgh and the sister of Mary Smith of Philadelphia. Rose is also survived by her eight cherished grandchildren, Jackie, Meghan, Rebecca, Ryan, Matthew, Brianna, Katie and Emily.

Eva Marie Foley of Southampton, PA passed away peacefully on November 15, 2014 surrounded by her family at her home. She was 95.
Eva was the beloved wife of 40 years to the late Francis J. Foley.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Mary Gentil McCloskey.
Eva is survived by her three loving children Francis E. Foley and his wife Christine of Berks County, PA, Ronald E. Foley and his wife Kathleen of Montgomery County, PA, and Faith Hober and her husband Joe of Southampton, PA. She is the beloved grandmother of Colleen Foley, Francis J. Foley and his wife Koesoema, Christopher Dascher and his fiancé Katy, Jennifer Heller and her husband Joe, and Kaitlin Foley. She is the great grandmother of Keegan, Kennedy Eva, Scott, Juliette Eva, and Alexa. Eva will also be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ann Ayre of East Quogue and formerly of Hampton Bays, died on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at her residence in Newtown, PA.
Born to Thomas F. and Ann Morris Casey in New York City on March 22, 1923, the family, which included older brother Tom, moved to Elmhurst, Queens, when Ann was four. She graduated Newtown High School, then employed as a Passenger Agent at United Airlines, LaGuardia Airport. She married George J. Lawrie of Rego Park in 1942 and shortly after the couple moved to Delaware County, PA, where they lived for 19 years. Five children were born there: Bonnie, Susan, Betsy, Patricia and Michael Scott. The marriage ended in divorce in 1961 and Ann and the children returned to Long Island.
In 1965, she married J. Ernest Ayre, MD, a pioneer in cervical cancer research, and moved to Old Westbury, LI. Dr. Ayre was the founder and Medical Director of National Cancer Center with two research facilities, Plainview LI and Miami (later Boca Raton FL). Ann served as Executive Secretary of the Long Island office alongside her husband for eleven years. Following his death in 1974, she was named Executive Director by the board of Directors and served in that capacity until her retirement in 1985.
In 1978 Ann built a retirement home in Hampton Bays which she and her family enjoyed until 2004 when she moved to Eagles Walk in East Quogue. She stated often that her retirement years in Hampton Bays were a dream come true, beautiful surroundings, loving family, and dear friends. She was an active participant in the Center for Creative Retirement at Southampton College for many years since 1985, she also volunteered with the Dominican Sisters Family Health Service and was deeply devoted to her local parish, St. Rosalie’s.
Both husbands predeceased her as did her oldest daughter, Bonnie Sullivan and her brother Thomas Casey. She is survived by daughter Susan Turner and her husband George of New Hope, PA, Elizabeth Saccone of Massapequa, NY, Pat Tucker and her husband Malcolm of Doylestown, PA, son Michael Scott Lawrie of Denver, CO, five beloved grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law Theresa Casey of Larchmont, NY.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Mass on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 10:30am in St. Rosalie Church, 31 E. Montauk Hwy. Hampton Bays, NY 11946. Interment will be private at Good Ground Cemetery.

William L. Diemer of Holland died on Monday November 17, at Phoenixville Hospital, Phoenixville. He was 79.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the husband of Carole E. Bollinger Diemer for 50 years. He was son of the late William and Anna Donaghy Diemer.
Bill was a resident of Holland since 1979 and a faithful member of St. John United Methodist Church, Ivyland. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.
Bill was an Engineer for Conrail for over 50 years retiring in 1993. He had several hobbies, but the one he most enjoyed was working around his home. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Susan Hill, 3 granddaughters and his brother Harry Diemer.
Bill’s family will receive condolences on Friday, November 21, from 10:30am until his Funeral Service 12 Noon at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.), Richboro.

James Andrew Mann passed away November 16, 2014 at his home in Newtown. He was 88.
He was born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved husband of 66 years to Doris C. Holdsworth Mann and son of the late Jane (Robertson) Mann and Edmund Mann, and was a life-long resident of Philadelphia and Bucks counties.
Jim summered in Longport, New Jersey. His life-long loves included his wife, his family, and his Christian faith.
Jim faithfully served is country during World War II. In the Pacific Ocean Theater he served aboard cargo and troop transport ships before being transferred to the USS Alaska (CB-1). After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Jim finished earning his high school diploma at Northeast High School and subsequently did coursework at Temple University.
Jim spent his career in Philadelphia as a commercial construction contractor. Jim and Doris started their own commercial construction company—James A. Mann Inc. Their business was successful and Jim and Doris were in business together for several decades.
Jim had several interests outside of work. He was a member of the Carpenters’ Company of Carpenters’ Hall in Philadelphia and the Masonic Philadelphia-Potter Lodge, Number 72. Jim also served on the Boards of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Ivyland, PA, and The Ocean City Tabernacle in Ocean City, NJ. He loved puttering around his home fixing things, helping and advising his family, eating at Shafto’s and walking down the Ocean City boardwalk with his family, and swooping up a child as he danced around the kitchen singing songs and laughing. He was a Christian who loved God and always had the courage to change the things he could for the better.
In addition to his beloved wife, He is survived by his daughters Carol and Joyce, his son-in-laws David Clift and Robert Finley, his brother Edmund Mann, and his sister Ethel (Mann) White. His grandchildren include: David Mann, Allison (Podrasky) MaCauley, Lauren Podrasky, Kelly Finely, and Andrew Finley. He has also been blessed to know three great grandchildren, Molly MaCauley, Joshua Mann, and Conner MaCauley.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of his life on Thursday November 20, from 9:45 am until Masonic services 10:45 am followed by his Funeral Services 11:00 am at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 820 Almshouse Rd. Ivyland, PA 18974. Military Honors and Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville.

Deborah A. Covelusky of the Rhawnhurst section of Philadelphia died on November 16, 2014 at Nazareth Hospital.
She was the beloved wife of Michael J. Covelusky.
Born in New Jersey she was the daughter of William S. DeCosta of Southampton and the late Carol Pietrowski DeCosta.
In addition to her husband and father she is survived by her devoted children Michael J. Covelusky Jr. (Rachel Shanks) and Melissa A. Covelusky (Dustin Rooklin), her dear sister Cherie Leadley (Tom) and Eddie O’Neill (Nikki Fedak). She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren; Jadalyn, Leah, Collin, and Conner.
