Charles J. Weinmann of Lansdale, PA passed away suddenly on Monday, December 15, 2014 at his home. He was 52.
Born in Abington, Charles was the son of the late Walter and Anne R. Madden Wimbrow.
Charles grew up in Bucks County and was a 1980 graduate of Council Rock High School. He continued on to Bucks County Community College where he studied Criminal Justice with anticipation of joining the Police Academy. Although, never joining the Police Academy, he did follow his obsession with cars and worked at Davis Pontiac for many years. For over 15 years he worked there as a technician before ultimately becoming one of the top service managers. After leaving the automotive field he began a new career in the banking industry where he held various positions with National Penn Bank before becoming the Vice President of business development.
Even with a thriving career in the banking industry, Chuck’s passion for cars could not be diminished and always seemed to have a new vehicle to tinker with. Since nothing seemed to satisfy his passion he began spending time at America on Wheels in Allentown where he quickly became involved in the organization and served as a past treasurer. Chuck also liked to give back to the community and was involved in numerous activities and charity events.
Another charity that Chuck enjoyed being involved in was Community Bike Works. Community Bike Works teaches life skills through bicycle mechanics to the young people of Allentown and the Lehigh Valley.
In the flagship Earn a Bike program, students are paired with mentors for classes in bike mechanics and bike safety. While working on their bike, students also learn communication, teamwork, and other job skills. At the end of the course, students earn their refurbished bike and a new helmet. Chuck spent several years as a deeply involved board member of the organization, and he also taught financial literacy programs to students.
Charles is survived by his wife of 20 years, Margaret Fody, and his sister Margaret A. McDonough Witte and her husband Jim of Mechanicsville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charles’ memory may be made to either America on Wheels, 5 North Front Street, Allentown, PA 18102, www.americaonwheels.org; or donations may also be made to Community Bike Works online or by mail.
