Recent Obituaries

Karol “Karl” M. Talafous

May 19th, 2016

Karol “Karl” M. Talafous of Doylestown passed away following a brief illness on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Doylestown Hospital. 

Karl was the beloved husband of Sheila M. Talafous.  In addition to his wife, Karl is survived by his children, Laura and Amy Talafous and his grandson Dominic Talafous.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph J. Talafous, Esq. and his sister, Ann Zapple. 

Born in Ventnor, NJ, he was a son of the late Karol and Anna Sulick Talafous. 

Karl earned his Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Kean College.  He taught for 30 years at his alma mater Lincoln High School in Jersey City, NJ.  Karl was extremely proud of his Slovak Heritage and was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol as well as a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Doylestown.

To say that Karl was multi-faceted would be an understatement.  He loved everything from golf to reading to Jeopardy and Crossword puzzles.  His sense of humor and generous nature was endearing to all who knew him. He loved the New York Giants, travelling, coin collecting and watching the History, Travel and Weather channels.  He was also a talented vocalist and was a very proud member of the Bucks County Choral Society. 

Most importantly, however, Karl was a family man.  He treasured every moment spent with his family, most especially time spent with his grandson, Dominic.  Karl’s charm, generosity and quick wit will be missed by all who knew him, but surely never forgotten.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Monday, May 23, 2016 from 9:30 AM until his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 E. State St., Doylestown, PA 18901.  His interment will be private.

Mary Jayne Comey

May 19th, 2016

Mary Jayne Comey, of Fernandina Beach, FL died on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at her home with her family by her side.  She was 92.

She was the beloved wife of the late William M. Bristol, III.

Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Dennis F. and Edna Dettra Comey.

She is survived by her devoted daughter Eileen C. Hee and her husband Vincent J., her brother Lawrence Comey, and her 3 loving grandchildren; Catherine, Elizabeth and Stephen Hee.

Mary Jayne’s family will receive condolences on Thursday, June 2 from 10:30 AM until her Memorial Mass 11:00 AM in St. Vincent de Paul Church 654 Hatboro Rd, Richboro, PA 18954. 

Her interment was held privately.

Nicholas A. Dion

May 18th, 2016

Nicholas A. Dion, age 14, of Sellersville, died peacefully after courageously fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at home surrounded by his family.

Nick was the beloved son of Denise Dion of Sellersville and Brian Dion of Bensalem.

He was born on August 6, 2001. Nick graduated from Pennridge North Middle School in 2015 and was a member of the freshman class at Pennridge High School. He had a passion for football. Nick loved watching football, especially the Eagles and the Oregon Ducks. He had an amazing experience this year when the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted him and his family the opportunity to attend the Super Bowl and spend time in California. Nick also loved playing football, starting at age 5 with the Pennridge Green Jackets and playing till the age of 13. He also played football and ran track for his middle school. As an athlete, Nick also participated in karate, baseball and wrestling. In the nineteen months after Nick’s diagnosis, he set the pace for everyone else with his appreciation for fun, positive attitude and courage.

In addition to his parents, Nick is survived by his sisters Brianna and Kirsten of Sellersville and his maternal grandmother Florence Heckler and his paternal grandparents Howard and Rebecca Dion, all of Bensalem, PA. He is also survived by his aunt and uncles, Lisa and Robert Gaffney of Chalfont, and Melanie and Thomas Elliott of Cinnaminson, NJ, as well as his cousins, Connor, Aidan and Olivia. He is also survived by his corgi Rocky. Nick was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Gerald Heckler.

Nick’s family will receive condolences on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 9:00 AM until his funeral service 12:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Avenue (at Sandy Ridge Road), New Britain, PA 18901. Interment will take place at St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont, PA.

Catherine Bartkovsky (Cicala)

May 18th, 2016

Catherine Bartkovsky, of Phillipsburg, NJ died on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Lopatcong Center Nursing Home. She was 87.

She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Bartkovsky Sr. and mother of the late Thomas Bartkovsky Jr.

Born in Harrisburg, PA she was the daughter of the late Dominick and Theresa Cicala.       

She is survived by her daughter Marian Gilbert and her husband Thomas of Holland, her 2 sisters Rita Cicala of Pittston, PA and Lucy Sowa of Pittston, PA.  She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren; Rachel (Kenneth) Koretsky, Nicole Gilbert, Christina (Jim) Irey, Brandon Castaldo, Jennifer Gilbert and Robert Gilbert and her one great-grandson Kenny Koretsky II. 

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 12:30 PM until her Memorial Service 1:00pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown Richboro Road, Richboro, PA 18954. Her interment will be held privately at a later date.

Ben Hartman

May 18th, 2016

Ben Hartman, age 83 of Levittown PA, passed away May 18, 2016 at St. Mary’s hospital after a short illness surrounded by his loving family.

Born at home, and raised in Trenton, NJ, he was a resident of Levittown for the past 50 yrs. He was the loving son of Ira & Helen (Caulton) Hartman. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ira (Bud) Hartman Jr. & David Lloyd Hartman.

Ben proudly served in the US Navy, serving on the USS FDR and the USS Intrepid. He was so proud to visit the Intrepid Museum in NY with his family later in life. He also would love to tell the story of how his ship was there for the wedding of Grace Kelly in Monaco and how he and his friends were kicked out of a bull fight in Spain for cheering for the bull.

Ben was a volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver of the Rusling Hose Fire Department in Trenton, NJ. He worked for Guido’s garden center, Grossman’s lumber and the Pennsbury school district.

Ben worked very hard his entire life providing for his family. He was a kind, loving, and gentle man who loved his family and friends. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life. Ben was a hugger, you were sure to get one when he first saw you and when you said your goodbyes. He was a Christian and a faithful member of New Life Christian Church in Newtown, PA. He loved to travel with his wife to many places around the United States, especially out west where he would buy new wolf sweatshirts to add to his collection. His most favorite was their Alaskan cruise and going to Yosemite National Park. He also enjoyed going to Disney World.

Ben is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ronelle (Fink) Hartman and his children Jill (Tim) Karl, Daniel (Susan), Glenn (Britta) and Lisa Hartman; his grandchildren, of whom he was so proud of, Lauren (Michael) Riggs, Daniel Hartman (his wonderful girlfriend Ashley), Sarah Karl, Tim Karl, and Sabina Hartman. He is also survived by his great-granddaughters, Brynn & Camryn Riggs. He will also be missed by his furry children, Molly & Misty.

The family would also like to thank the wonderful nurses at the St. Mary’s CCU unit for their diligent, amazing, and caring assistance. Especially Lisa, Donna, Nancy and Maura, also his homecare nurse Ida.

A celebration of Ben’s Life will be held at New Life Christian Church,4 Freedom Drive, Newtown PA 18940 officiated by the Rev. Dr. Norman J. Leve, on Tuesday evening May 31st with visitation at 5pm followed by service at 7:00pm . There will be a brief service at New Life Christian Church on Wednesday June 1st, at 10:00am. Interment will be at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.

In lieu of flowers we would like donations, in his name, made to Puppies Behind Bars. This organization helps provide service dogs for veterans. Please contact www.PuppiesBehindBars.com. Donations can also be made to New Life Christian Church at the above mentioned address.

Last but not least, give a loved one a hug tell them you love them. It would have been what Ben would have done.

Michael T. Malloy

May 17th, 2016

Michael T. Malloy, of Yardley, PA died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was 56.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late John F. and Jeanne M. Hyland Malloy.

Michael served as the Supervisor of Clerks for the Appellate Court of New Jersey. He cared deeply about social justice, particularly racial and gender discrimination and bias. Personally, he was friendly, affectionate, and hilarious. An accomplished cook and joke teller, he loved rugby, golf, fishing, and jazz. Most of all, his loved his daughters, Bridget and Kelly. He often dropped by their school to play with them during lunch and recess breaks, sometimes arriving with unexpected gifts like a huge tray of French fries to share with Kelly and her friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone who has had the pleasure to know and love him.

Michael is survived by his loving and devoted daughters: Bridget and Kelly Malloy of Yardley; and his siblings: John Malloy of Levittown, Patricia Grubb of Sedona AZ, Jeanne Malloy of Ewing NJ, and Amy Bado of Newark DE.

Michael’s family will receive friends on Saturday, June 11, from 9 AM until his Memorial Mass at 10:30 in Sacred Heart Church, 343 South Broad St. Trenton, NJ 08608. Interment will be private.

Evelyn V. Gambaro (Gervais)

May 16th, 2016

Evelyn V. Gambaro of New Hope passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown. She was 88.

Evelyn was the beloved wife of 54 years to Thomas M. Gambaro.

Born in Brockton, MA, and raised in Abington, MA, Evelyn was the daughter of Arthur and Jennie Donovan Gervais. She attended the Junior College of Connecticut in Bridgeport before moving to New York City, where she worked as a secretary and eventually met her future husband.

Evelyn was a resident of Hicksville, Long Island, NY before moving to New Hope in 1996. She was a very active resident of the Village of Buckingham Springs and enjoyed playing cards, bowling, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. Evelyn will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife and special mother and grandmother and will be truly missed by all.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Ann V. Gambaro Hodul her husband Christopher of Alexandria, VA and Thomas M. Gambaro Jr. and his wife Kristi of Farmingdale, NY. She is also survived by her sister Genevieve Sabin of Langhorne, PA and her two cherished grandchildren, Alexa and Grace.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family from 9:30am until her Funeral Mass 10:30am on Saturday, May 21st in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901. Evelyn’s interment will be private.

Kathryn Caroline Campton (Erb)

May 16th, 2016

Kathryn Caroline Campton of Warrington and formerly of Holland and Huntingdon Valley, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Neshaminy Manor Nursing Home. She was 93.

Born in Philadelphia she was the daughter of the late Christian and Katharine Friedel Erb.

Kathryn attended Olney High School before ultimately graduating from Cheltenham High School in 1940. She went on to work for The Insurance Co. of North America in Philadelphia before focusing her time and energy on her family.

Kathryn was a member of the Somerton Womens Club and was an avid traveler. She most especially treasured time spent at her home in Ocean City, NJ with friends and family who always had the open invitation to be there with her. She was a kind hearted and generous woman whose grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her world. Kathryn will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are her daughter Donna C. Schuman and her husband, Bill; her grandchildren, Christiane Campbell and her husband, Aidan, and Paul Schuman and his wife, Jill; and her three great-grandchildren, Liam and Christian Campbell and Bryce Schuman.

Services and interment will be held privately.

Joanne R. Diodato

May 16th, 2016

Joanne R. Diodato of Philadelphia, PA died on Monday, May 16, 2016, at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, PA.  She was 66.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Albert Diodato and the late Catherine (nee Masic).

Joanne most recently was a resident of the Mayfair section in Philadelphia where she lived with her sister and brother-in-law.  For the majority of her life Joanne lived in Bucks County.  She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1968.  For many years she was an employee at Georgine’s Restaurant located in Bristol, PA. In her leisure time, Joanne enjoyed travelling to different places and always looked forward to taking a trip to the casino.  She had a wonderful sense of humor and could be described as a funny lady who enjoyed life with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed as a loving sister, aunt and great aunt.

Joanne is survived by her sister, Joyce C. Mangold and her husband, Robert and her four brothers, Arthur Andrews and wife Pat, Denning Andrews and wife Sherry, Michael Uhernick and wife Carla and Mitchell Diodato and wife Darlene.  She is also survived by her niece and goddaughter Denise Warnick and her husband Alan, her nephews Kyle and Joshua, nieces; Sherry, Tara, Megan and Sandi and nephews; Michael, Anthony, Mitchell, Nicholas, Vincenzo, Daniel and Eddie, as well as several great nieces and nephews. She will be also missed by her best friend Rosie and other long time friends who knew her well.

She also had many loving cousins that where there by her side.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, May 27, 2016, from 10:00 AM until her Funeral Service 11:30 AM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road), Richboro, PA 18954.  Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem, PA.
